BTS - with mod Realism:Invictus ver. 3.5 Screenshots from my game

And 2 "shots" from my 1st fleet (I have 4). And don't worry - I'll have all the ships together as one sailing-unit next turn again. This is just for fun:

Civ4ScreenShot0009.JPG

BTW: I forgot to mention, that the only reason (I think) I'm able to play on such a big map, with that many starting nations (14) for so many turns is....

I'm playing with a minumum 4 tiles distance between cities on same landmass.

Earlier games have shown me - the hard way - that a combination of 180-240 cities and 3-7 nations is "The Limit" if I want to play to an end with the settings I like.

LOL.

New candidate for a Cultural Victory. Kahina. The beautiful - but cruel - leader of the Berbers (see below). A friend - not a close one, but still - during most of the game.

Civ4ScreenShot0017.JPG

With only 45 turns left (3rd city makes about 2K culture each turn) I can't say: Loose the game!!

It's not time enough to end the present war against the Hindi nation and get my troops deep into the Berber-land and take their cultural center.

So it's just: Sh.t happens. Have to take it as a man (so to say)......

Civ4ScreenShot0016.JPG

As for the former leading cultural city of the Hindi¨s:

Civ4ScreenShot0011.JPG

Åll passive defense was bombed to dust. Rest was just "a job to be done".

Last shots from this game - going to prepare my next.

First one showing the fine details of the armored units preparing for an attack on a Hindi city (primery defender here is a Hindi marine):

Civ4ScreenShot0018.JPG

2nd is showing....... MY DIPLOMATIC VICTORY.

I knew by taking some Hindi cities I would get more votes and Ashoka would get less - so I continued my war against the Hindi nation. Just hoping I would get a new chance for a dip-victory. And that Kahina still would support me that is.

She did.

Civ4ScreenShot0019.JPG

I must admit I was preparing for the first nuclear test and would soon be able to build ICBM siloes and place rockets in them. So starting a nuclear war against the Berbers could be an option later on,

Just that would give me 2 "deadly" enemies instead of one. And I do not know what my Arab ally would do in that case.........

Last shows me (playing Romans - leader Trajan):

Now next game has passed the first eras, this time playing as Japan (Tokugawa Ieyasu).

After being among the lowest ranked nations (actually been no. 16 out of 16 for quite some turns), I have crawled up the ladder.

At war with the topdog. King Carlos I of Spain.

Just for those, who does not play this mod of BtS: The AI here is very capable to plan and make naval invasions. Just look here:

Civ4ScreenShot0025.JPG

Tried first a (small) invasion in my southwestern corner - but was utterly defeated as I had a good army ready after a short war with my southern neighbor.

2nd: Tried to get an invasionfleet through the narrow waters between my land and the above-mentioned southern neighbor in the southeast. But was defeated once more.

However those 2 attacks so shortly after each other forced me to split my troops too much, so I'm not able to defend myself once more - I can't repel this his third attack (screenshot above).

More about my spnish war.

The spanish invasion was a succes and Spain actually took my city. For quite some time, I was down on my heels with more than half of my defending army injured, even though I pulled back to the hill-range west of what you can see on the screenshot. I was holding the line using heavy cavalry (cuirassier), line infantery and some light infantery. At that time most of my cities in my mainland was defended by only 1 or 2 units - except the area 'round my capitol and the 3 cities I took earlier from my southern neighbor.

The spanish used that........ A 4th and a 5th invasionfleet was sent toward narrow and shallow waters south of my mainland. Their 4th fleet got through and landed a force deep into my area. Took and burned a good productioncity there. They still hold the ground there while I'm trying to get enough (powerful) troops to kick them out again. Their 5th fleet was destroyed near my capitol.

Civ4ScreenShot0026.JPG

The Indonesians (Mataram Sultanate) used that I was busy elsewhere and declared war, trying to take back the area that divided their land. They kind-of-failed and we are now at peace again. "Kind-of-failed" because they didn't loose many troops, neither did I. But the war prevented me from sending troops back to my mainland.

2 things have "saved" me so far:
1st: I got frigates before Spain. I guess I'll see their first frigates within the next few turns, so how the spaish war ends.... well time will show.
2nd: Something that might - just might - be a bug in the upgrading system. This has been reported to Walter Hawkwood yesterday afternoon. If some are interested in reading more here, follow this link: https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/realism-invictus.411799/page-414

Edit: Spain has frigates now - 1 turn later.

Got my land/waters cleared for each and every spanish troops/ships.

But peace with Spain???? In my dreams it seems...................

Civ4ScreenShot0027.JPG

Love your posts, wish you had shown some more screenshots from the early game!

I'll do that - promise(!)

But first a little about how latest game ended.

Spain kept harrasing me and finally I had no other choice than to withdraw all troops from the 3 cities I had in the south . I simply needed the troops to defend my "native homeland" against those pesky spanish invaders.

Of course Indonesia declared war and took those cities (next screenshot). It was simply too good an offer to refuse - I knew that would happen, so...... anyway I got renewed the peace with Indonesia shortly after just as I had hoped for.

Civ4ScreenShot0063.JPG

Finally I got a peacetreaty with Spain too. Not because of my "brave" defense, but merely because Russia and Turkey declared war against Spain.........

I took the chance and declared my first war in this game. With success - won 4 cities.

Civ4ScreenShot0065.JPG

2-300 good turns followed. Spain was busy elsewhere, among other things they did their best to clear the map for english troops, so I could keep focus on SouthChina and Indonesia.

More good turns followed and at last we had "The Setup" for the end-game.

Civ4ScreenShot0074.JPG

Now the time for revenge had come. I was only a few turns from declaring war against Spain - when they came first. They came with a rather big invasion-fleet, but I had used much gold to upgrade my fleet and troops for this "hour". I was surely ready now.

Civ4ScreenShot0031.JPG

Civ4ScreenShot0034.JPG

Civ4ScreenShot0036.JPG

I won that war!

Meanwhile Russia and Turkey made a joint-venture agaist India. Russia could have gained several cities, but razed them instead. Turkey however, they kept their gains and made new cities where Russia left the land burned down.

Civ4ScreenShot0075.JPG

Continued from above...... Just as you might see, Russia joined me in my war against Spain, doing exactly the same here with the spanish cities as they did with with indians - burned them down.......

Civ4ScreenShot0077.JPG

And finally. End of Spain. As you can see, Turkey couldn't resist and joined the war against Spain.

Civ4ScreenShot0079.JPG

Below a couple of screenshots from powerfull wonders, that I had had good use from duing my war(s):

Civ4ScreenShot0044.JPG

Civ4ScreenShot0046.JPG

As in my last game, I was close to loose the game due to my low cultural standard(!).

After Spain was destroyed, Russia had 2 cities, famous for their culture and and 3rd one close to.

Remembering how close it was last game, I did prepare for something real nasty, that surely would destroy my fine reputation (if I had one of that kind that is)......

Civ4ScreenShot0050.JPG

Civ4ScreenShot0051.JPG

Using that weapon against a good friend, well............... On the other hand, you wouldn't know how long time a good friend will stay as a good friend - do you????

End of that game. A little extra present on my birthday (65 years(!))............

Next game will be as Napoleon I.

I'll try on a much bigger map than normal (200*120 vs 160*100). Therefore I'll use 5 tiles distance between cities instead of 4.

I started on the map 10th March and I'm still working at it. Guess it will take the rest of this day and perhaps also most of tomorrow before I'm satisfied and ready for the 1st test.

I'll try it with 18 nations, and place those, so all have most of their present neighbors (France/England, France/Germany, France/Spain, Germany/Poland etc. etc) and see how far I can do it. Also I'll try to find leaders, how lived at the same time as Napoleon where it¨s possible. Where it isn't, I'll go a little up or down in time until I find a "suitable" leader.

I have not yet decided if I'm going to keep the leaders default traits. But either I am - or I will make changes to ALL leaders, so no-one gets a negative trait.

As promised earlier up, I will uploade screenshots from the earliest eras too. Starting next with screenshots from the development of the map.

As the map was created (min. 60% water).:

Civ4ScreenShot0037.JPG

Next. In the small map in the lower-right corner you can see how I "think" I would like the map to be.

Civ4ScreenShot0038.JPG

Next. More terrain, features and bonus added.

Civ4ScreenShot0040.JPG

And finally a "close view" on the top of above place.

Civ4ScreenShot0042.JPG

A little more about the game I'm playing right now.

I "managed" to find suitable leaders for my 17 AI-nations, where most of them had lived at least some years in the 18th or 19th century. I decided to "fade out" the effect of some of the most negative traits (fx the isolationist and anti-clerical traits), so there are no real weak AI-nation in this game.

I hope by using a 5-tile-distance between the cities, that I can keep the size of the savegame ¨round 4MB and be able to finish the game. I have bought and installed the memory-manager Process-Lasso and it could help me if/when I get into memory-trouble in the late-game. But it can't do miracles.......

Below the last screenshot I made of the map. A vulcano-island in the middle of the sea. After I made this, I added a few more isolated islands, that no nations could reach before the renaissance era. One or two island might even be surrounded by sea-ice before that......

Civ4ScreenShot0088.JPG

Now water is essential in my games. No access to water gives (nearly) no tiles for foodproduction. Except for the sea, lake and of course river-tiles. And this "wish" from my side is the reason why I need to make most of the maps myself.

Further I have changed the <iGrowth>__</iGrowth> value in the XML\Terrain\CIV4FeatureInfos.xml file, so more features spreads out now. Forest is changed from 20 to 125, Savanna from 20 to 50, Jungle from 20 to 50, Scrub(land) from 0 to 5 and Swamps from 0 to 15. Tiles can as usual be worked on - except for the scrubland. That can't be cleared with a single chop/clear/remove order to the workers.

I do now know, what order I should add to the workers and where to do it (CIV4Buildinfos. xml, CIV4UnitInfos.xml and CIV4Misc1xml). But adding those changes makes all older maps/saves incompatible (different checksum). That problem/challenge can also be solved, but it takes time. So this will have to wait until I have finished the game I just started on.

Now. Meet the leaders (some of them). I do like those "pictures" much more than those of the default game/expansion.

Civ4ScreenShot0097.JPG

No presentation needed here.

Civ4ScreenShot0098.JPG

Above an old "friend", that normally would belong to a modern setup. But that was the "best" Italy could come up with........

Civ4ScreenShot0099.JPG

Stalin's "right hand" in Mongolia.......

Civ4ScreenShot0100.JPG

Leader of Persia.

And more:

Civ4ScreenShot0101.JPG

Zulu-chief

Civ4ScreenShot0103.JPG

Also a leader, that doesn't need any presentation.

And next. 2 leaders who simply can't stand each others. At least in my game ;).

Civ4ScreenShot0104.JPG

Civ4ScreenShot0105.JPG

Last 3 leaders for now.

Civ4ScreenShot0106.JPG

Leader of Ethiopia.

Civ4ScreenShot0107.JPG

French marshal under Napoleon (Jean Baptiste Bernadotte) before he became king of Sweden (and Norway). The only AI I have been at war with until now.

Civ4ScreenShot0108.JPG

Russian. Not as "colorfull" as Carlos III - but still in a very pretty uniform I say......

Last for today (I did promise some screenshots from the early game):

Civ4ScreenShot0109.JPG

A little city in former babarian land. Of the 11 cities I have now, I have founded 4 on unclaimed land. 2 cities are founded near former babarian cities - cities I burned down because I didn't like their placement....

Other 4 cities are just conquered babarian cities and the last one the city I had to take from Sweden/Scandinavia to get a peace with them without paying gold in return for the peace.

The many horsearchers you see to the left are because I finished the horse whisper quest 2 turns ago.

Civ4ScreenShot0111.JPG

The situation as it is now. My nation plus 15 AI-nations. I still have to "find" the last 2 AI-nations. Map-trading is - as in all my games - totally disabled, so there isn't any shortcut to get detailed knowledge of any place unless "you have been there yourself".
