Hey all -- sorry if this has already been discussed somewhere else.

This is the message I get when I try to open the BOTM on my shiny new 7 32 install.

Warning -- the HOF MOd will be unable to save settings. Games played will not be valid for submission. Please use a user account with admin access. etc etc etc.

I tried the vista fixes, but running Civ4 as admin gives a compatibility issue that didn't happen before, and every time I try to modify the settings, they instantly revert back as soon as it is closed.

It is installed in C:\games\civ4

Needless to say, this is the only problem I have had converting to 7.
Can anyone help? I know I can't be the only one.

Thanks for your help!

The Vista Fixes should be done for Win7 too.

Notes
:
  • that the Read-only checkbox will revert to checked but it still will have had the required effect further down.
  • You must use Custom Game setup so you can check "Lock Modified Assets" so that the necessary Checksums are created if you plan to submit to HOF. (GOTM comes already checked. ;) )

Edit: I did a quick and dirty update to the Vista Fixes (now Vista/Win7 Fixes) to make it clearer that Win7 users need to do them as well.

Hi!

I had done these steps on my old Vista installation and there they helped, but recently formated to Win7, did them again and still got the 'can't submit, make sure you're running as admin' etc on launch.
But!
The problem appears to have been that I hadn't done a proper install of civ4, was still running my old folder from before the swap to Win7. Reinstalled the game and it's fixed, woo yay!
I suppose it needs to access some regfiles. Maybe add to the faq that one must have a properly installed version of the game, and not just running an old folder. Some may regard that as obvious but I rarely reinstall games after formating my OS drive :p

How I got it work on my Windows 7 system.

1) Create an Administer account
2) Log into the Admin account
3) Install CIV IV and BTS
4) Install 3.19 Patch
5) Set the Firaxis folder access permissions (read-only will reset on login but this normal)
6) Install BUFFY-3.19.002
7) Install MapFinder
8) Configure MapFinder settings
9) Create shortcut to the Executable with the /mod = option

It should work at this point.
