I can get the BUG mod to work when i start a normal game but if i try to start a custom game the mod won't work. I have tried reinstalling the mod but that doesn't work.

Can you please be more specific?

How are you starting a "normal game" -- using Play Now! menu item? And by "custom game" do you mean simply using the Custom Game menu item?

And how exactly does BUG not work? Does the game work fine but you just don't get the features of BUG? Or is the interface missing (see the map only with no buttons)?

Also, how did you install BUG? Did you use the EXE installer or ZIP archive? Did you install it to CustomAssets or Mods?

We can't help if we don't know exactly what's happening and how you got there.

sorry for not adding enough information. to answer your questions the game words find but there are not of the BUG features when i use the Play Now but not the Custom Game Menu. I have gotten BUG to work find before it isn't working now. I used the Exe. and i think i installed it to the CustomAssets.

Are you loading another mod? Can you test to see if you loaded it as a mod and forgot? Go to Advanced and then Load a Mod, see if BUG Mod 1.0 is in the list.

I can think of no reason for Play Now to work and not Custom Game. BUG isn't involved in that part of the game. By the time BUG gets involved, the map has been generated and the game started. BUG doesn't know one way or the other how it was started.

We released 3.5 last weekend. I recommend renaming your CustomAssets folder and installing the new version.

I have a question of my own though. I recently upgraded to 3.5.1 from 3.0 (much more improved!). It works great, the only problem is sometimes when I am in a game, and then I decide to load a second game without exiting to desktop first the game crashes.

This may not be a Bug issues at all, I'm not sure. But it's possible I didn't uninstall 3.0 right before installing 3.5.1 which could cause this problem maybe? I did rename the assets folder during the install but was there something else I should have done?

Thanks

You should install one of the SVN nightly snapshots if you can handle ZIP files for the latest and greatest. We've added quite a bit since this summer.

The only problem is sometimes when I am in a game, and then I decide to load a second game without exiting to desktop first the game crashes.

When does it crash and how? Is it a true crash to desktop, or do you get a Python exception? While doing some recent work, I did realize there are some places where initial data may not be initialized correctly when starting/loading a game without exiting Civ.

Do you mean you renamed CustomAssets? If so, that's all you should need to do. If you installed to the Mods folder, you can safely have multiple versions installed at once, but each game will be tied to the particular version it was started with.

Do you mean you renamed CustomAssets?

Yes, so I guess I did that right after all. I didn't know there were a LOT more additions past the 3.5.1. I avoided the nightly snapshot because I can only assume it's alpha, and I've had so many problems with beta software. Hell, even Firaxis' patch for their patch breaks things worse. How the hell does that happen in the corporate world?

We actually strive to keep the SVN as stable as possible. When the occasional bug slips in, we've been pretty quick to fix it (usually within a day of the report). I play all my games with my development code. :)

As or Firaxis, all I can say is that we're pretty lucky they continue putting any resources toward it. Yes, it sucks to have bugs. Their code is more complex and tougher to test than BUG because some there are so many options (civs, leaders, eras, etc).

I'm not saying you should accept bugs in software. I'm just telling you why they happen and make it into released products. ;)
