Since Command-H is used by Mac OS X to hide the frontmost app, anyone know how to use a leader to hurry wonder production under Mac OS X?

Odd... I get told I can't hurry the production of wonders. regular Civilization and city improvements, yes, but it won't allow me to hurry the production of wonders or Spacecraft components.... Not a nice feature when you're in a race against the AI, and the other civs have the number of bodies and productivity to throw at a task, while you've got the funds.

Not odd at all - its the design. The counter is the ability to pre-build (via palace or other wonders).

Hi,
In Civ III, the only way to hurry wonders and similar types of improvements is by use of a Great Leader (You know - those guys you can make into armies that you get from Elites winning battles). A leader (if not made into an army) will automatically complete a wonder or any improvement. They are rare to get but very nice when you have them.

what do you mean pre-build via palace or other wonders?

If there is aparticular wonder you want but you do not have the tech yet and are worried an AI iv will get it, you start a city building the Palace as a 'placeholder' prior to getting the tech. Once you get the requisite tech, you switch the city that was building the Palace to the Wonder and, depending on how far along you are, have a 'hurried' wonder. It requires planning but is the human player's advantage (presuming you don't have a Great Leader hanging around. ;)) - plus, judicious use can stop the "wonder cascade".

Being working my way up through the levels. am in Monarch now, and still have yet to see the rising of a Great leader. And tons of my Elite unites have won battles......Just ask those fledgling civs I wiped out Heh.

Hey Grey, I find that I get more Great Leaders when I'm playing Militaristic civs [cos that's a design feature (-;]. I get 3-4 per game, but, of course, you can only get one at a time. I also use one GL early on to create an army and then make sure it wins one battle so that I can build the Heroic Epic and increase the chances of GLs appearing. Japanese and Germans have given me the most leaders, although I just got one at Regent level with the Egyptians--still yet to win at this level 'tho.

Don't use command just press "H", it works for me.

Doesn't work for me ~ I get a message You cannot hurry production of <Wonder> (or else the world view recenters on my capital).

In Mac OS 9, I can activate a leader in a city producing a wonder and hit Command-H to hurry production. This is how it is supposed to work according to the manual.

However, Command-H is used by Mac OS X to hide the current application. I have to reboot into classic for one turn just to use a leader this way.

Anyone else running Civ3 in Mac OS X found a way around this?

I'm not running OS X, but I believe that, if the GL is active and located in the city producing the wonder, one of the round buttons at the bottom of the screen gives the command to hurry the wonder.

that's true... there is a button to hurry with the great leader when it is active on the city square you want the wonder to be hurried... and if your leader is active there, just pressing "H" without command should do the trick to.

Yes yes yes ~ i never use the buttons but the Hurry Improvement button does indeed cause leaders to hurry wonder production.

Thanks for the tip!
