BUG not coming up for me.

I just installed Bug to try out. I copied the zip contents to: Documents-->My Games-->Beyond the Sword-->MODS

I start up BTS and press ctl+alt+O and nothing happens. Is there anything I'm forgetting? Is there a file I need to change/add to tell it to use this mod?

I look the MODS folder over and see no error logs of any kind so I assume I have done a booboo somewhere along the line.

also, I am using Vista x64 if that makes a difference.

Are you loading the mod from the "Advanced" screen? Start Civ4, click "Advanced", click "Load a Mod", select "BUG Mod".

If you have tried that, look in the folder "My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\Logs" for a file called "PythonErr.log" (named exactly this, no "2" in it). If you see one, post it here.

Finally, are you using the normal Civ4, Warlords and BtS expansions or the all-in-one Civ Gold or Civ Complete editions?

Nope, lol. I knew there was some place I was suppose to activate it. Thanks. But, it still didn't show up in game, however I did see the BUG Mod words on the startup pages in the upper-left hand corner of the screen. But, in the game I get nothing with ctl+alt+o.

will this work in an old saved game? or does it need to be started before you create a game?

Nope, I looked at during all methods of install and it never showed up except the PythonErr2.log

I using the BTS CD to play and on the Noble level. I bought the gold edition with Civ IV and warlords both on the CD, then BTS separate.

It's an issue with you using Gold edition. You'll have to edit your registry. There are several threads about having no interface, and at the end of each is directions on how to edit your registry to fix this problem. Another way will be to download from the SVN. Directions for that are in the latest version thread, and a couple of SVN threads. We'll be coming out with a new release, hopefully this coming weekend, to address the issue of Civ Gold and Civ Complete.

But, in the game I get nothing with ctl+alt+o.

Before you hit that, do you see the normal Civ4 interface, or is it missing? In other words, do you see all the buttons or just a map? If the regular interface is there, it's simply not loading BUG.

will this work in an old saved game?

Not when installed as a mod. Each saved game has the name of the mod used to start it embedded in it. When you load the saved game, its mod is loaded automatically. If no mod was used, the current mod (if any) is unloaded. So loading BUG first won't help. You need to start new games to use BUG installed as a mod.

If you install BUG into the CustomAssets folder, however, all non-mod games you play, including old saves you load, will use BUG. Again, so long as you didn't use a mod when you started the game.

This could be the problem. The old BUG version didn't play well with CivGold and CivComplete, but the problem was obvious: you saw no Civ4 interface at all -- just the map. Is this the case? (same question as above) If so, a) do as Alerum says and create a registry key, b) grab the latest version of BUG from SVN or c) wait a week or two for the new release which fixes this issue.

ok, here's what all I do.

I go to the advanced menu and load BUG Mod.

The whole program exits and restarts on it's own and I can see it loading in the BUG Mod during the initial setup. It takes me to the main screen and I select single player and new game.(It say BUG Mod in the upper right hand corner of the screens here)

It takes me to the game screen and everything looks normal and all the interface features seem there. I hit alt+ctl+O and nothing happens. I can hit alt+I and the interface disappears. I hit alt+I and get the standard interface back

I've already tried the regedt32 thing and it Firaxis doesn't even show up at all! weird, but I look through all the registry entries and can't find any reference to Fraxis at all anywhere. also, I'm using 64 bit Vista so I'm not sure if it does things different.

Maybe I'll try the SVN thing and see how that goes while waiting for a response.

Thanks for the help

ok, I found the regedt32 info and my installdir was already set for both gold and bts.

I guess I'm off to do the SVN thing.

Yes, please try grabbing the latest from SVN. This is really strange; I haven't seen it behave this way. Yay for new bugs!

If you haven't installed the new BUG yet, I'm curious if you see any of the changes BUG makes. Most stuff is on, so the easiest way is to open the Civilopedia. If you see "Sevopedia 2.3.1" at the top of the screen, BUG is working -- just not the options screen.

Ideally, though, grab the latest version and see if that solves the problem for you. Sorry for the trouble.

ok, I got the SVN thing installed and files downloaded, but it doesn't seem to want to install properly.

I checked civilpedia and it has no version # of any kind when I open it up. Just says civilpedia across the top of the civilpedia window.

also, what folder should I be installing the SVN BUG Mod? and do I need to make any folders. I have it installed in 4 different places because i keep reading where people suggest different ways to install it. I have installed v2.22 from zip file. and I use Vista 64 and it has different folder locations than XP.

Right now the SVN file is named the BUG Project, and when I export it to MODS folder, it creates a "The BUG Project" folder again.

oh boy, my head is starting to spin again - lol

Let's get it working as a mod since you started it that way. This is how the directories should look. Note that I'm guessing about the name of where your user directory is (as opposed to "Documents and Settings" and "My Documents"), but this is pulled up from the registry by the game, so it should always find the right place.

Code:
C:\Users\
  <your name>\
    Documents\
      Beyond the Sword\
        Mods\
          BUG Mod\
            Adv Unit Naming.ini
            BUG Mod.ini
            BUG Mod Help.chm
            CustomDomAdv\
              CustomDomAdv.txt
            Assets\
              ...
So first rename "The BUG Project" to "BUG Mod" exactly. Next, make sure that the Assets directory and "BUG Mod.ini" file are in that folder directly without another intervening folder. If the Assets folder is named "CustomAssets", rename it to "Assets" exactly (drop "Custom").

I hope that will do it for you. It doesn't sound like something's broken since you see the normal game interface. Rather, BUG just isn't being used. Once you've done the above, if things still don't work, can you post (or PM me) screenshots of your folder structure, both where it's installed and where you pulled the SVN files down?

ok, here's what I've now done. I deleted everything in my MODS folder in my documemts folder. Then I right clicked my MODS folder and did the checkout thing and it installed BUG Mod and BAT Mod. I used the complete link.

I startup the game and load the BUG Mod without issue, it restarts and says it's loading BUG Mod. I start a new game and hit F12 for the civilopedia and it still says just Civilopedia with no verion numbers. I go back to the game and play a few turns and then hit alt+ctl+O and still nothing happens.

Doing it that way, you definitely need to rename the folder "CustomAssets" to "Assets" inside the "BUG Mod" folder. It should look just like I showed above.

The problem is that Civ4 doesn't look inside "CustomAssets", so none of the changes BUG makes are being used at all.

WOOT!! Success at last.

The rename did the trick. I get a message at the game screen to hit ctl+atl+O. and Civilopedia is now the Servopedia(sp?) and all seems well. I'll have to play a game now and see what all new goodies I have to play with.

Thanks again for the help and the speedy responses.

This is awesome. It is so nice to get the extra notices. I really like the whipping info, I always seem clueless when I am able to whip again. I really like knowing when my cities are about to reach max limit and when they are about to achieve unhappiness/healthiness. and just so many things list. lol

Thanks for taking the time to put together such a great mod.

I'm back.

I just re-installed Vista and forgot to backup the bts folder. I tried to install the BUG v2.3 but it won't work again. It says it's loading bug, but nothing comes up at ll. I renamed the customassets to assets with no luck.

I couldn't seem to find the svn file anywhere. anyone have a link to that?

I'm back yet again. lol

I have reinstalled vista again and decided to play BTS as I haven't played in a couple months and when I install everything I see there is a new patch. I load in the patch to have it hang and just download and install it manually. Then I install the Solver's patch to 3.17 and all seems fine.

I then decide to try BUG Mod and see there was no installer for the 3.17 version and decided to use the SVN version. I used the SVNcheckout on the MOD folder in users/me/documents/my games/BTS. the games loads up fine, I load the BUG mod and the games restarts itself, I see it loading BUG Mod stuff and then when it gets back into the game I see BUG Mod in the upper right hand corner of the screen, but when I get into the game I just get the normal UI and Alt-Ctl-O gives me nothing and civilopedia is still civilopedia.

Is there another folder to try? I remeber last time I tried like 4 or more different methods and none worked except the auto-installer from the previous message.

Thanks in advance

ps. I originally created a BUG Mod folder in the MOD folder, but then there was a BUG Mod foler inside the BUG Mod folder I created. users/me/documents/my games/bts/mod/BUG Mod/BUG Mod

Mods should be placed in {Civ4MainGameFolder}\Beyond the Sword\Mods\.

For BUG this should be: {Civ4MainGameFolder}\Beyond the Sword\Mods\BUG Mod. In this folder there have to be the folders Assets (for this rename CustomAssets to Assets), BUG Mod (with the readmes etc.) and PublicMaps.
