Ok, this is starting to really get on my nerves. Windows XP doesn't keep the settings of my folders anymore. I mean I just open let's say My Documents folder. It opens maximized. I resize it in order not to fit all the screen. I open another folder, then close My docs and that folder. If I open again My docs, it's showing maximized and taking all the screen again. Is this a bug or should I do something with the registry? I really hate XP not being able to keep my personal settings for each windows. And having to resize them each time is damn annoying.

Sounds like you're doing it right. I was going to post a link to PC Mag, their help section, but you did what they would have said to do.

Not sure about a registry tweak.

Try going to www.webattack.com and look in their freeware section for a system tool that would help. Maybe a power toy or something.

Sorry, can't think of anything else.

They should open in the last size you used.....

you can right click to properties on any folder etc and you should see a 'run' option where you can set the size.

Sounds like a bug though. You say "anymore"..did it used to?

I've had this problem as well, it tends to come and go and another thing is listing icons will randomly change occasionally as well but usually its okay.

does it work if you open the folder, resize, close the folder (making sure no other instances of explorer are open). when you open again it SHOULD be the same size.

go to folder options and look if "remember each folder's view settings" is selected or not.

The only "bug" with XP is the "Microsoft" attached to the front of it, AFAIK . . .

I did check all those remember settings. Actually it seems to work again. But if I open 10 explorer windows, then it will erase the settings of my 1st opened window, if I close it...

So don't open ten windows. Sheesh! Some people! ;)

No, I've noticed too that occasionally I loose my window settings. But then it goes away. Hasn't happened in a while tho. Just Windoze, I guess. . .

Windows XP has a registry setting for how many folder view settings to remember.

Unfortunately, the default value is ridiculously small (400! Can you believe that?).

Google Search "Windows XP Folder Setting Registry" should find you answers on how to remedy that....

Like this site: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Item 2 (at the top, left-hand side) is what you're looking for.

Try this procedure and tell me if it works:

1. Disable "remember individual folder settings from Tools- Folder Options"

2. Close ALL apps, everything.

3. Open a folder.

4. Resize and reposition it to how you want.

5. Close that folder.

Edit: or the tweak...
