Build Order and Research Tree

I think I already know the answer to these questions but I'm hoping I'm wrong.....

1. Is there any way that when the "what do you want to research / build next" menu pops up that I can go into advisor / go into city menus / look around the map, before making my next choice?

2. Is there any way we could have a "search" page function added to the research tree so it's easier to find stuff?

I'm guessing the way vanilla is coded may prevent any mods that would enable the above suggestions, but I'm more than happy to be proved wrong

The first Answer in the tech pop-up is always "What's the Big picture?". This option brings you to the tech tree. When its a finished item in a city the first option is always Examine City, guess what that does. ;)
 
for 2, maybe use the civilopedia? depends on what exactly you mean by "find stuff."

see above for 1, production and research are not set in stone and don't get applied until your turn ends, so there is no penalty to change things.
 
Just turn on the option "Minimize Popups til end of turn" and then they'll be queued along the right side of the screen until all units have moved. You can then click them when you've decided what you want to do.

The new mana placement is annoying for that tho, since they block access to the popup minimized icons, should put the mana counts a little further from those icons.
 
With the search function in the research tree, I was thinking of being able to type in a wonder, unit name, resource type, etc, and be taken straight to it, rather than having to mouse-over everythinig to find what I want.

I'd actually prefer a hardcopy research tree to plan out my long term strategies, but as there's no manal for FfH at this stage, this would be my
2nd choice.
