Hello Everyone, I am new to the forum and new to the game... I played Civ3 probably about a total of 4 times before I went crazy! Either I am just dumb (I did the tutorial all the way through) or I just can't find it out for the life of me.. But, what increases the speed @ which your buildings build? Like, when I first build on a newly settled tile, that town takes 30 turns just to build a barracks!? Is there anyway to speed this up? I believe it has something to do with how much pop your town has, and if thats SO, what is the fastest way to increase your town pop-and together-the build rate?

Please help me out :D

thanks

The things to look for in terms of early production are hills and forests, especially forests on hills. If you mine a hill, it gives extra production. Also, some resources (like iron, copper, and horses) give extra production.

Remember that for each population point in the city, you can work one additional tile, which means more total food and production capability. As the city gets bigger, it can produce more. Forges, factories and such also increase production (usually at the cost of health). Don't worry...before long you'll be pumping out tanks.

Go into your city screen and click around on the tiles around the city and find the one that lets you produce things fastest. Hammers are production for building things, bread is food that makes your city grow if you have enough of it, and coins are commerce which makes you rich.

ok, so when I find the tile that has the most 'hammers' on it, do I just send a worker to build a mine on it and that will allow me to build faster?

Ok, here I go, I have a settler, and I want this town to grow fast in pop, and build fast (buildings).... If I plot my town on a tile that has 3 Prod hammers, and 2 Food breads, will that make my town grow fast and build fast?

I am confused as to when you say :

Remember that for each population point in the city, you can work one additional tile, which means more total food and production capability. As the city gets bigger, it can produce more. Forges, factories and such also increase production (usually at the cost of health). Don't worry...before long you'll be pumping out tanks.

So how do I know which tile its working when I plot it down (1 tile spanning all around the city)? ALSO; if I plot my city like I mentioned above, does that automatically make that town build faster and pop faster because I put the town ON that tile, or would I get the same benefit plotting next to it?

I mean, when I plot a town, and have workers start building improvements around it, when you say you can work additional tiles as you get more pop, does that mean those cottages and farms etc, wont be actually beneficial to my town till my pop grows?

I am sorry I have alot of questions, but I havent been into the Civ craze before, and I am trying to understand what I am doing..

thanks all!
