Building wonders on Emperor level.

The wonder that my playing style can't survive without (lots of commerce and low tech rate in Ancient Age) is the Great Library.

To survive I find it a neccesity that if I have at least 2-3 contacts I pre-build a palace in a decent food/decent shield town while using my capital for settlers, and buy Literature from the first person I see with it.
Read it. Especially Rule 1.

The 4 rules of Wonder addiction

If you really, really want to, some AA wonders can be yours (negative effects on your expansion aside). Especially those that comes from the Writing path, you can setup your opponents to get very good chances.

In the middle ages, I find Sun Tzu's, Leo's and Sistine's (yes, Sistine's :smug:) as well as Smith's useful.

Especially Leonardo's in early MA, if I have to hand build it I will.

Anything past the Middle Ages should be yours.

I love to get the Zeus, and go for it if ivory is around. Leo's Workshop is also
one of my very favorites to get (saves me tons of $). The rest I usually either capture or make if the possibility presents itself.

@all: My point was that at Emperor, you can still indulge yourself with lots of wonders and win comfortably. Skill-wise, it's best not to build any to improve your gameplay but even if you do build some, the negative effects wouldn't cost you the game.

Just finished a 20k on emperor as Carthage.

18 Great Wonders in the capital. 122 cpt at the end of the game.
