When gifting gold to another civ to adjust their attitude is it better to: A) pay 100 gold one time or B) pay 10 gold ten times?

I try and do a trade every turn to keep everyone "polite", but sometimes this just doesnt work out.

I was playing the the good guy and trying to keep all the other civs happy with gifting them gold and then selling them a tech to get my gold back plus a better attitude. Was workring good until the "polite" Japanese made a move on the only ungarrissoned city - my capital - ouch!!

So much for trying to be friendly. Quickly put some troops into the capital, but since they were already in my territory they started to get rowdy and attacked the nearest city. Quickly mustered the cavelry and fought back the samurai. So much for trying to be the peacfull guy.

There's a couple of articles in the War Academy that could help understanding how the AI attitude works. Keep the AI Happy (which isn't really relavent to your situation) and Bamspeedy's AI Attitude.

Looks like Japan thought it could take you, and seeing that ungarrisoned city just tempted it too much.... Probably would not have happened if your military was strong enough to dissuade them.

Thanks Turner for the quick answer, I will check out those article you mentioned.
About Japan - thats the funny thing - my military advisor said that I was "strong" compared to them - Just that big juicy undefended capital was just to good to resist.

Thanks

Just finished with the article - very imformative. It is good to know what the AI values for adjusting their attitude both positive and negative.

Yes, there were wonders - Sun Tzu's. and Leo's. Good reminder to keep your goodies guarded or someone will try and take them from you.

That's probably why they wanted it.

Anything by Bamspeedy's going to be good. He writes excellent articles and has a real good understanding of the game and how it works.
