Split Empire is a slightly modified version of a standard domination game with Nebuchadnezzar on Continents map. We are using a set of rules for a human player, while AIs play a regular game.

The special rules for Split Empire are:

- Definitions: A CONTINENT is a landmass with one or more initial capital cities. An ISLAND is a landmass which is not a CONTINENT. A CONTINENT where a player settles the first city is called a PRIMARY CONTINENT.

- The game is played on continents map.

- A player may pick any civilization except Polynesia to play this game.

- After a player settles the first city on a PRIMARY CONTINENT, he/she must settle the second city on a SECONDARY CONTINENT which is not the same as PRIMARY CONTINENT.

- At any point in the game the number of cities a player has on a PRIMARY CONTINENT and the number of cities a player has on a SECONDARY CONTINENT must be equal or must differ for one city. This restriction does not apply for ISLANDS and other CONTINENTS.

- A player must achieve domination victory.

The first part is already up!

Check Buzzdowan's channel for more in the following days.

There is also turn 0 save, if you want to try the same game and play along.

Comments are appreciated.

Enjoy!

Interesting rule set. A question about policies though. Why did you take Patronage when you only have one CS ally? It seems a bit of a waste. Why not Rationalism opener since you have signed a bunch of RA's? Even Commerce or the right side of Honor would seem to be better choices than Patronage.

The reason for opening patronage and philantrophy is to counteract the effect of hostile city state (Singapore). I was afraid of loosing to much money to keep a hostile city state allied. Maybe I overreacted, I admit.

You need to up your difficulty to Immortal at the least so that you're not fighting archaic units like longswords with infantry and artillery. That's the current problem with Emperor and below - once you understand the basic strategies it's no longer a challenge to play anything lower than Immortal even with "special rules". The AI just can't compete unless they have huge bonuses.

Regarding what happened to you in Tokyo - You only get increased movement on roads in AI territory if you are at peace and have open borders. Once you are at war this increased movement on roads ends and the underlying terrain dictates the movement speed. The same goes for the AI when entering your territory while at war.

Funny that I did not know that. So many hours of play and still I find basic rules I am not aware of  Thanks for your explanation though!
