C++ runtime library error. Please help

I have tried installing this on two different computers that meet or exceed the system requirements. Both running Windows XP with all the lastest SP's.

On both I get the same error message at the very end of the installation process (dics 2 at 98+%) while installing the file civilization4.msi:

Feature Transfer Error
Feature: C++ Runtime Libraries 7.1
Component:
File:
Error: cyclic redundancy check.

The only option is "OK"
Once I clicked that, it cancelled the installation

Any help?

P.S. This is the 2nd cd i try from my friends who just bought it.

I bought this game before and can't even install them
errors came up like
"Error number: 0x8004072
Description: Failed to load DLL: Dsetup
Setup will now terminate"

what's the point of patch? ...when you can't even finish installing the game.

sounds like a corrupt windows installation. cyclic redundancy check errors can be caused by a damaged cd/dvd drive, damaged disk or problems with software/windows (more info on it here).
The second error is cause because a DLL file named dsetup.dll is either missing or damaged. You can try and google for dsetup.dll and placing it in the correct folder or by reinstalling windows.

But my CD-ROM/DVD-RW/R is working fine with other game. In fact, I just installed F.E.A.R. earlier. I use disc cleaner and other methods...but still. I guess i'll repeat every methods again.

The second error is fixed. Thanks. Now installation is complete.

Now have to suffer through in-game problems...

It's a damaged disk then, you should go back to where you bought the game and try and get a replacement.

Something weird is going on here

The game works fine

But what happened was I use disc1 and disc 2 that I bought to install. But I can't play the game using either disc1 or disc2. I have to use the disc1 that my friend bought and it works just fine! What the hell?
