C3C Black Screen...

I checked out some of the black screen threads in the Tech Support forum, though they seemed to deal exclusively to Windows users. I tried manually changing my monitor to 60 Hz, which aside from looking slightly odd, didn't work.

My monitor's rather old, and as the game starts up it makes a moderately high-pitched noise, sort of a zzzz type squeal. A video pops up for 2K and then Firaxis, and then it makes the noise again, and after that the monitor simply switches itself off. I can hear the background music, and I can hear sounds as I move the menu select up and down.

I'm thinking this is more likely to be a hardware problem, but I was curious as to what people with far more knowledge than me think.

What resolutions does your monitor support?

Try holding down Command when you launch C3C. This will bring up a window wherein you can select, among other things, the resolution to run at. Make sure it's using a resolution your monitor can handle. If it already is, try manually switching your resolution to what C3C will be using before you launch it.

In that window you bring up you should be able to select for it always to appear. Handy if you want to switch rez everytime, or occasionally use a different one in play, or play sometimes in a window, sometimes not. I do that so I don't have to remember to hit the command key; I'm usually finishing up thinking about something else while Civ fires up.
