I've had C3C (patched to latest version) for almost 2 years, played it on a regular basis. The game always runs smoothly...until today.

I clicked "play", the movies went fine, but then the menu screen simply wouldn't start up:cry: . I tried reinstalling, but that didn't work. What could be the problem?:wallbash::suicide::suicide::suicide:

Never heard of that file. Have you tried deleting it? Or moving it to another location? Moving it might be better at first.

8.27.03 sounds like a date to me...but I don't know why it would say that.

I don't have that file on my machine. I *think* it's okay to delete. But you might want to back it up first, just in case.

I have been getting a lot of Civ3 1.29 crashes since Microsoft's April updates. I have determined that Microsoft patch for MS06-015 might be the culprit. I understand how they did the work around for the two programs they admit have the problem so I will look for a solution for this.

In the meantime, you could try:

Turn off automatic updates
Go into 'start/settings/Add or Remove Programs' and remove patch KB908531

Warning: you should only do this if you are not using Internet Explorer since this patch contains a security update.

Let us know if this works.

It doesn't seem I have that patch. Either that or I'm worse at computers than I thought.

For clarification, the game is Conquests v1.22, problem is that the menu won't launch. No error message, no nothing.
(Please help!)

Have you changed monitors recently? Maybe it's a refresh issue. You can set your refresh in the conquests.ini file.

No I've not changed monitors for a few years.

EDIT: the file "CIV.Conquest.8.27.03.mov-li" turned out to be the Civ Conquest trailer. I must've downloaded it from somewhere, it's just that I can't remember.

EDIT: Errrmmm...I can't locate the conquests.ini file. Where is it suppose to be?

I decided to uninstall the game and then try installing it again and see if that works. Then this message comes up:

An option you selected requires that files be installed to or uninstalled from your system, or both. A locked file, C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Conquests\LSAN.TTF, was found while performing the needed operation. To leave this file as it is on your system, click the Ignore button, to retry the file operation, click Retry, or to perform the operation when your system is rebooted, click Reboot.

This is the first time I've seen such message. (and I've had to install and uninstall the game a few times) I'm very bad at computers and had no idea what a locked file is. If someone can explain what it is and the significance of "LSAN.TFF" to me I will appreciate it very much.
