Eventually ! After promising it for so long, a Fall of Rome PBEM.

Aetius, the famous Roman general who defeated the Hun, will be the name of this (AFAIK) first Fall of Rome scenario PBEM.

Its main target is experienced players to have a fast game and check how it works.

It is for Conquests, using the MP version of the Fall of Rome scenario and the patch 1.22.
So you need to have both Conquests and the patch 1.22 installed on your computer.

One question for this "première". What barbarian civs to choose. I tried to cut the Eastern part of the map (thus deleting the Sassanids and Huns) but it proved too complicated a task (need to clean the entire map and destroy the civs then reintegrate them,...., a desert line or just an empty area can do the job fine). However it is possible to have other barbarian civs than these two that are a bit out of scope and therefore not so interesting in PBEMs.
On the other hand Franks and Anglo-Saxons are very close and Celts might be out of scope too. So you can vote for the civs you prefer.
Of course when these are chosen it will mean a little editing of the biq (weakening Byzantines in the East if Sassanids are off,...) for balance. I have checked some things and it works OK.
My preference would be without Sassanids and Huns but I probably won't play in this one so my preferences have little value.

Civs will be attributed randomly and along playing times.

Rome : AI
Byzantium : AI
Barbarians : (2 civs need to be deleted)
Anglo-Saxons :
Celts :
Franks :
Ostrogoths :
Vandals :
Wisigoths :

Players : 6 (Rome and Byzantium will be played by AI)

1. punkbass2000
2. WarningU2
3. IanDC (replaces Donovan Zoi)
4. Greybeard
5. Gnarfflinger
6. Sega Fanatic
7. AI
8. AI

You want to be in ? You have further questions ? Post in this thread or send me a PM. If ready to join, send me a PM with your e-mail.

Please make sure you post as well your playing time (in GMT time) : ie 6 AM -2 PM GMT.
Please post it here even if you already posted in in another game thread.
On the other hand no need to resend me your e-mail if I have it already.

Organization : the game will be called "Aetius" to be recognizable and when you get the game, send a mail to inform the sender you got it (GPS = Got it, Played it, Sent it).

Not sure if I want to play, but definitely no Sassanids. Aren't they basically a newer Persian Nation that has finally overthrown Roman control? From my knowledge they aren't what Rome would have considered barbarians...

Also, despite your reasons for getting rid of the Huns, I personally think that they are the one barbarian civ that has to be in the game as it was their pressure on the Roman Empire, both the Eastern (they received tribute!) and Western that made it possible for the Goths...Visigoths I think...to eventually conquer Rome.

That is just my opinion since no one else is throwing them around... Also, I am definitely not signing up for this one as I will be too busy for the last two months of school, but will definitely be lurking as it appears to have an "All-Star" sort of line-up of several C3C PBEM Veterans...

I'll give this one a shot, as long as you don't have me set up the game. ;) It seems I have some extra time that was set aside for the Kamikaze Contest. :D

I'm ready for a new game. :)
My playing time is 11 P.M.----> 3 A.M. GMT

Hmmmm.....More time from Kamikaze contest.... yes I could see that. Another game in a scenario I have not played yet... how masochistic am I.... As long as this does not start with 2 hour turns and full battle from the get go, I could do it. If you need someone. If you fill out the card, fine, I may need to pay more attention to the wife and kids anyway.

There is experience and then there is skill, not always the same thing. I would just skip this anyway, I am spending too much time at this. Couldn't resist DZ's Kamikaze comment. I am sure you will fill out but if you need someone, I am always game for something new and can always squeeze in one more PBEM. I would always rather try it out against people, I hate playing the AI.

I have experience but not much skill. I'd like to try this one.

I suggest that the Huns are too far out to be a factor. The same charge could be made against the Celts. I'm assuming that the Sassanids are questioned because they have a different tech tree.

Any two of the three out would be good.

who qualifies for experienced?

People who have been playing regularly and reliably for a while in PBEMs on these boards.

As Semental and Gnarff said it does not have anything to do with skills. You can be a newbee in PBEMs and be one of the top COTM players and experienced in PBEMs and of poor skills. But usually people who play in PBEMs get better since they have to think more against a human opponent.

Here by barbarians I mean people NOT Roman. And BTW barbarians mean people who don't speak Greek. Latins were kind of culturally digested and politically dominant for so long that they were no more barbarians for the Greeks. But Sassanids still were.

About the Huns I respect your historical arguments. But my point was game-wise, not historically-wise. I personally don't see the point of having to cross so much area just to attack your enemy in a PBEM. Which does not mean they were unimportant historically-wise.

Sign me up, looks like a good game with good players that might actually run rather quickly.

Game full !

Not many votes. But a tiny "majority" for Sassanids and Huns off.

WarningU2, Donovan Zoi and SegaFanatic please give me your playing time (in GMT).

Punkbass the 10-11 am is GMT ?

Playing time could be between 4-9 PM, in NZ time. Which, at the moment, is GMT +13, but will go back to GMT +12 on the first sunday after the 15 of march.
