GPS Tribute, this looks really really normal :)

Maybe Jay had a little fun here and there in the editor for dates, but it changes nothing. Barbs are roaming so they will seldom pop up, though I don't know when, really - 5, 10 turns? There are huts, yes. We are on emperor.

(It changes a little; culture doubling time, I believe. But is anyone really going for cultural victory?)

Oh, and how would anyone actually succeed at cultural or diplomatic victory? You'd really have to allow the person to win. Cultural is lost since everyone just declares war on you. (Only possible to succeed culturally if close to conquest/domination.) And diplomatic is not really possible since everyone will abstain. I guess you'd have to be really, really nice to everybody, or we could just ban spiteful abstains.

I doubt it has ever been seriously attempted. If someone builds the UN, I would assume it's a frame to hide a pre-build for Manhattan project or Internet. In both cases, the general consensus is that everyone goes for your nuts and stops when you are no longer.

Space is more doable when the power stalls in the end game. Techs can be stolen, production sabotaged, parts built but culture cannot be rushed. And the UN is a big 1000 shields bull's eye.

I can't see culture happening because it has no constructive counter, so everyone goes for the destructive counter. Space can be tackled aggressively as well but it can be done peacefully. Or it can end up in a huge tactical nuke bloodbath. You can imagine how messy human vs human modern armor/nukes warfare gets. Sometimes you just don't even want to get there because then you know another one will take advantage and get a lead in the race. That's when you get an actual space race.

This is pretty hypothetical but in the end, I wouldn't suggest you get into a culture race mindset ;)

How about histograhic? :D
(Assuming everyone can play for the next 3+ years)

If culture, diplomacy & space are out that only leaves the violent solutions.

If only for once there could be a peaceful game.

And even for conquest and domination, people should quickly catch on and ally against the winning empire. All this anti-win stuff reminds me of the card game Mao. There really should be some limit; maybe only up to 2 people may be at war with you at a time. Or when UN voting, actually vote for the civ that treated you best (unless both did you ill turns). Stuff like that. Then again, all this is too far into the future.

The peace loving Iroquois Nation seeks only to live in harmony with it's neighbors.

What might be fun in a future PBEM is to make war against a human illegal. After we get around turn 100, let's see if the four of us are interested in starting a non-war game. Set-up 4 continents on a standard (or large map) each of us with a Militaristic AI. Then see who can win the game without attacking any of the human players (of course the AI are fair game).

Oh, almost forgot, GPS to Jokeslayer

Oh don't get me wrong, peace is the general flavor of these games and wars aren't always decisive or recurrent; space does happen ... though Si vis Space, para Bellum ;)

I doubt any of us really wants an AW game but sooner than later things will lead to one another... we'll all get sucked into it without realizing :p

"Si vis pacem, para bellum" is a Latin phrase for "if you want peace, prepare for war." With an on-topic twist.

GPS Tribute.

I may have made an exploration error or got lucky. I am unsure of which.

Also, when popping huts with your scout, beware! Since we are all non-expansionist, we will be horrified by the likelihood of our getting barbs. And since 3 come out, odds are you won't be able to escape with your remaining move.

As an informational item, you cannot get barbs as long as you do not have a unit with an attack factor.

The rules on getting barbarians are:
1. Must not be EXP
2. No adjacent city
3. Player must have at least 1 city
4. Player must have at least 1 military unit (attack factor >= to 1)
5. Unit must not have All terrain as Roads ability (explorer)

And for those interested your odds:
City 5%
Tech 10%
Gold 5%
Settler 5%
Map 5%
Warrior 5%
Barbarians 65%

Each of those have additional requirements, like for a tech must not be able to research a Middle Age tech. If anyone is interested I'll list out the all of the parameters.

I think I popped barbs the other day with a worker after a building a curragh (and nothing else) and got barbs. I could be wrong (especially as curraghs don't have an attack and that contradicts the above)

EDIT: nevermind, curraghs do have an attack, they just can't use it. I still wouldn't have expected them to count, being ships, but thy definitely do.
