CAIR is basically known as an organization that protects the civil rights of Muslims. You will often see CAIR spokesmen on various news networks like FOX news and CNN.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is an advocacy group which seeks "to enhance understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.

However there are more then a few people that believe that the CAIR organization has an ulterior agenda. In fact most of mainstream media is becoming more and more suspicious of CAIR as well as departments of the federal government. An example is seen on an entertaining debate between Tucker of MSNBC and Arsalan of CAIR on the six Flying Imam event:

But there is another side to CAIR that has alarmed many people in positions to know. The Department of Homeland Security refuses to deal with it. Senator Charles Schumer (Democrat, New York) describes it as an organization "which we know has ties to terrorism."[3] Senator Dick Durbin (Democrat, Illinois) observes that CAIR is "unusual in its extreme rhetoric and its associations with groups that are suspect."[4] Steven Pomerantz, the FBI's former chief of counterterrorism, notes that "CAIR, its leaders, and its activities effectively give aid to international terrorist groups."[5] The family of John P. O'Neill, Sr., the former FBI counterterrorism chief who perished at the World Trade Center, named CAIR in a lawsuit as having "been part of the criminal conspiracy of radical Islamic terrorism"[6] responsible for the September 11 atrocities. Counterterrorism expert Steven Emerson calls it "a radical fundamentalist front group for Hamas."[7]

A song just recently came out on youtube that CAIR claims to incite Islamophobic extremists (whatever that is) to cause violence on Muslims.

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — The executive director of the Sacramento chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations said he believes a death threat against him was fueled by Senator Barbara Boxer’s actions. ...

Elkarra claims Boxer was misinformed and has caved into the rise of Islamophobia in the United Stated.
“It empowers the extremists. Just recently we saw a video that came out, talking about open season on Muslims. It’s all over the Internet and people are bragging about killing Muslims. This has to stop. It’s unacceptable. Islamophobia is real, it’s here and we have to make sure our elected officials speak out against it.”

This is the Video entitled Open season, what do you think? (The music video begins at the 2 minute mark of the youtube video).

CAIR is just another Al Qaeda front.

(It should be noted this may be the one and only time that Dick Durban, Charles Schumer, and myself agree on anything.)

CAIR is "unusual in its extreme rhetoric and its associations with groups that are suspect."

I read this and thought "couldn't I describe the ACLU the same way"?
But I don't actually know very much about either organisation. The only Muslim council I know of up here is trying to illegalise the hate speech from Muslims

why is everyone attacking islam all of a sudden?
