Calabim confusion

Do the calabim not get the arquebus unit? Crossbows are a national unit but arquebus's are not? Maybe vampires are afraid of explosions? Whats the point of researching blasting powder "an expensive tech" when it dosent do anything for half of the civs. All of the races have opposable thumbs so i d/k why they cant get the arquebus or cannon unit. Every civ can put cannons on their ships but for some reason cant figure out how to use them on land.

It is intentional that some civs are different than others. If they were all the same then civ selection would be easy and also rather boring. Blasting Powder offers benefits other than access to Arquebuses, so even the Calabim can research it and potentially get some benefit. If you feel that the lack of Arquebuses makes the tech too expensive to be worth researching, then skip it. Making choices about what techs to research is part of the game.

No, but since arquebus is a relatively effective weapon which is easy to use, they are afraid that it will end their dominance over their human subjects.
