it would be cool if someone could make a extension mod to introduce everythink that already was in civilization call to power 2 like tech, units, ocean cities... in civ4.

still ctp2 is my favorite, but i loved civ4's 3d and open or closed borders...

imagine a fusion of civ4 with ctp2

There were two elements I really liked in CTP2

1. Mutually Assured Destruction. I really liked that concept.

2. Public Works. I hate worker units, I think the concept is kind of silly. I really preferred a system where you specified an amount of income toward public works and that is how you built your roads, mines, etc.

I agree with what you said about public works. I think that was way better than the worker concept.

The other thing i liked from the ctp series were the blue trade route lines. It made piracy a real option, and made the neccessity for a navy very real. I've played games of Civ3/4 where I've barely built more than a couple of ships. Other than as transport, and a little bit of protection for them, there was very little point to them.

Writing this mail really brings back some fun memories about ctp. Who else liked the fact that you could eventually place items in low earth orbit, and out to sea? I liked it that you could take the game into the next few centuries rather than just 2050 (when, lets face it, its unlikely mankind will have gotten as far as Mars, let alone Alpha C.). This exploitation of ocean resources and L.O.E. just seems a little more likely to me than travel between the stars.

I also loved the CTP series (Especially CTP 1) with space cities, water cities, and amphibious units (Levathians and such). The fact that it lasted till 3000 was very neat, I loved the future age!

Make that THREE things. I forgot all about that, that too was a good idea. There were various problems with CTP, but they definately had some neat ideas that I wish were incorporated into Civ4.

I really can't express enough how annoying the 'worker' concept is though. There is no amount of worker automation that is ever good enough. Workers tend to be a pain in the bum in later games, especially if you have 5 or 6 and everything is developed. It's busy work that isn't necessary as an actual "unit". I really really liked the public works idea and can't think of a decent reason not to use it...It's a good way to mimic a very simple public policy decision to divert funds into a public work account and then every road or improvement costs X amount of funds to develop.

I remember reading an article somewhere, I think it was Game Strategy Plus, or whatever, when they were making Civ3 they interviewed some fellow about it. The mag had asked the guy if they were going to change improvements to a system more like CTP. The guy being interviewed responded that "they like workers". I'd really like to know why?
