I have Direct X 9.0c installed (verified with dxdiag).
I downloaded the latest drivers for my video card (GeForce 4 TI 4400) from the NVIDIA web site.
YET CIV FOUR REFUSES TO RUN!
I get the following error message:
Title Bar - Civilization4.exe - Unable To Locate Component
Text: This application has failed to start because D3DX9_26.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
Can anyone help me? I got the game for my name day today, and I'm desperate to play!

I think this is bad/corrupted Direct X install. Missing dll files usually means problems on installations.... This file isn't in my Civ IV program folder -- but it does show up in my system32 folder - so it's gotta be (or probably) a directX dll.

I'd try reinstalling directX -- overwriting whatever files it might prompt you about whether you want to.

I had an issue with an earlier version of DirectX 9 that seemed to be corrected by reinstalling without my anti-virus running.

Thanks, but now I'm having a completely different problem.
When I try to install DirectX from the CD, I get the following error message:
A cabinet file necessary for installation cannot be trusted.
And the installation fails.
When I attempt to download DirectX from Microsoft's site, I have problems with ActiveX. I use Firefox. I tried it again with Opera and even IE, but to no avail.

EDIT:
I worked around it by downloading the 9.0c Redistributable from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...A6-9F7B-4C8A-AEA2-97DD6AB307A2&displaylang=en
However, when I attempt to install it, I get the same error as before, but with the following affixed to the end of it: Please verify the Cryptographic Services are enabled and the cabinet file certificate is valid.
