Being an Aussie ive created an Australian Civ with the editor. However as an eskimo has a greater chance of dying from heat stroke than Australia does of creating a unique military unit that will chage history. So instead of a unique unit as such i thought about a unique ability. And heres what i came up with. As you all know a revolution in civ 3 can take forever and is alot of the time not worth doing in the late game as you lose to many turns. Something im proud of about my country is that when we gained our independance in 1901 we did it without a drop of blood. There was no war and it was done peacefully. So what i want to do is give my Aussie Civ the ability to have a revolution without having a period of anarchy as this is the best way to represent Australia's peaceful transition. I really hope this is possible as it would offset having no unit to give us an edge but when our democratic people are saying 'give peace a chance' in civil diorder sending my production and food down the dunny, and the civ at war will not acknowledge my envoy to make peace, i could switch quickly and efficiently to a form of government that is better for war until i can make peace. I hope this is possible and someone could tell me how to do it or else ill have to make a unique unit which of course will be the Boomerang which 50% of the time will miss its target and come back and hit me on the arse!

Well, I'm in a good mood tonight, so I'll assume you're serious and not just trolling.

The answer is to give your custom civ the Religious bonus.

For a UU you might consider some kind of commando-type unit with the "hidden nationality" unit attribute, to simulate the information network they had set up in the south Pacific in WW2. Probably not the best idea, but it's all I could come up with on the spur of the moment.

I reckon you could have a special Aussie equivalent to Rider, developed about the same time as Cavalry. A good proportion of the Light Brigade (the ones who charged all those cannons in the Crimea) were Aussie diggers who even brought their own horses. Even well into the 20th Century the Aussie cavalry was used for recon purposes and was well renowned for their effectiveness and skill.

I also like the commando idea too. I always thought that we should be able to build a special forces unit (SAS/SBS etc...) that has excellent A/D/M and also has several abilities of a spy such as sabotage etc... They could also have a certain chance of being undetected in enemy territory, even when they attack. Of course they would have to be ridiculously expensive to produce, except for Delta Force which would cost 5 shields per unit...... only joking my American friends.

The SAS idea would make a great UU for the Aussie civ too as has been mentioned they did a great job in the Pacific during WWII.

Of course, you could always have your UU as the Aussie backpacker who infiltrates enemy cities across the globe, drinking all the beer, sleeping with all the women (or men) and getting all the coolest casual jobs in the best places, thus reducing the city's happiness level and causing civil disorder through jealousy that they don't have a nation with thousands of beaches and hordes or gorgeous birds everywhere and whose citizens only have to pay half the income tax they do......
......sorry, but I couldn't have a dig at the yanks without ribbing you too, I didn't want to make you feel all left out.

P.S. if the 'up the eels' are the eels i think you mean would you be offended if i said 'UP THE KNIGHTS'?

How come you support a team from Newcastle when you are from Sydney? I know the Eels are based in Para but they are nearer to Sydney than Newcastle (unless my geography is as bad as my Civ playing).

I bet you're one of those glory hunters who support the best playing team going. We have them over here too, but we call them Manchester United fans.

I used to live in Paramatta in case you're wondering how I come to be following them...boo to the knights.

How are the Swannies doing in the footie?

(Sorry this is unrelated to the game to anyone else reading this.)

    I was just kidding!
I dont go for Newcastle i just thought id pretend for a moment due to the Grand Final effort of Parramatta. I was going for Parra in the decider and was very dissapointed that a Sydney team couldnt bring home the trophy as its been a while.

Im not a band wagon supporterI live in the Sutherland Shire so Cronulla are the team to support out my way. The comp starts tommorow here so hopefully they will do well.

As for the Swans i dont follow AFL much its popularity has faded badly in sydney since the hype a few years ago. They did however bring back tony lockett this year at age 36 to try and get some exposure and hype back.
(were you serious about the swans or were you following up on your bandwagon comment as there isnt a bandwagon bigger than the one the swans had for about 1-3 years.)

Why did you leave Aus? Its parra's best chance in years to finally win and there big favourites this year!

The Olympic stadia were all finished and the work ran out in Sydney so I toured Oz for 6 more months before I was 'escorted off the premises' by the nice, friendly immigration people (my 12 month visa expired).

Cronulla have a sweet side, but I really liked the Eels when I was there because they were mostly a young side (with the exception of Monsieur psycho Dymock) who had a great future - I guess they must currently be experiencing their Golden Age.

As for the Swannies, I was there in the throes of all that hype but even after seeing several games live I didn't understand the rules except that the use of severe violence is encouraged.

Anyway, before we get binned for not discussing Civ-related topics, what other mods have you made to create your Aussie civilisation? I reckon you could get rid of either Paras or Marines and replace them with Commando/SAS troops. Beef up their stats a bit, aswell as their cost and give them one or two other extras (I can't remember what there is but I'm sure there are several other options available).
