Can I install patch for gold edition

I brought Civ3 gold edition, and i open readme file and it is not an update version, so i install patch v1.29f and PTW v1.27f, after that it tells me to insert play the world or civ3 cd-rom, what should I do? thank you!

Welcome to the forum, daleli.

Did u install the correct language version? The US version has different CD protection from the European versions.

If you installed the correct version and it still doesn't detect the CD, the problem could be with your CD ROM. You can contact Atari tech support and ask them to email you an exe file that doesn't contain copy protection.

PS: You may not need to install the patches. Civ3 Gold should come with the latest version of Civ3 and PTW. Even the older Civ3 Game of the Year edition came with v1.29.

Edit: I just checked Atari support website for Civ3 Gold (http://www.atarisupport.com/newfaq/...rowser=1&pageDisplay=DOWNLOADS#faq_prodissues). The page doesn't list any downloads for Civ3 Gold, so you most likely don't need to install the patches.

My version of Civ gold bought in the UK came unpatched ( or up to 1.14 or something) and ironically needs the US patches, took ages to sort it out the first time

in fact Civ Gold in the UK is just Civ3 and PTW packages repackaged into a bigger box which then needs 2 seperate installations
