I was wondering if it was possible to make an absolutely huge, realistic earth map. Like the one El Mencey's earth map for Civilization III. His map was 362x362. To me that is the only way to play civ is on a huge map. The game just dont last long enough on the small maps. I would like to create a map this big if possible. If so, could someone point me in the right direction to get started. Or is someone would like to do it. I would be willing to help them anyway i can. Just show me the way and i will help. you can contact me on aol messenger and we can chat on there. my screen name is j6lch. I just dont like little maps. I like to have alot of cities. This way the gameplay takes well over 100 hours to complete. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to give a hell of a shout out to all the modders on this site. You guys do an absolutely fantastic job. I too would like to learn how to mod. If someone could just point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

here is the link to el mencey's map. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?postid=1434343#post1434343

well there are a few very big maps here (such as 256x128), but not as big as elmencey's. But you must consider that:

1. You can't compare just one side, but the areas, as plot system as changed to civ3 to civ4. So, while a 362x362 map for civ3 was 65522 diamonds, a 256x128 is just a little less (32768 squares).

2. Maps such big are unplayable anyway. All I can do is suggest you to play the one I use in my mod (http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=204) which is enough big (124x68) but has an enlarged Europe as you might find in giga maps.

rhye,

i appreciate your quick reply. but i enjoy the big maps. the maps that take forever just to uncover all of the shroud. thats the only way i roll bro. And what do you mean they are unplayable? elmencey's 362 map played fine.

as a matter of fact rhye, i remember playing el menceys map with your mod for civIII. and i must say you do some great work bro. just absolutely amazing.

As you wrote, it was a map for Civ III. For Civ 4 such map is unplayable for most users. Try playing a smaller map, i.e. 256x128 mentioned earlier and you'll see what I mean.

Don't even bother. Rhye is right: Maps that big are unplayable. For me anyway.

Huge maps are fun to play but do have some problems. My map is 7.5 times the size of a standard map. I have been forced to figure out how I want to change the Naval movement rates to compensate.
