can no longer use leaders to advance techs

I can't use leaders to advance research anymore, I know I did it at the start of my current game, but now whenever I try it uses up the leader but doesnt give me the tech.

help?

you have to wait next turn or two i think in order to actually get the tech sometimes

Leaders only give a certain aount of research towards techs.. late game techs cost so much they wont give you the techs alone.. you have to spend time researching them in addition (or use more than one leader)

I used 2 leaders and then still went ahead and researched the tech after a turn had passed.
After researching I can get the tech, but the leaders are completely useless towards it.

It should say something like "will give 700 beakers towards Blahblah Tech".
