I've been getting into game editing with AC a lot lately, creating my "perfect" AC experience. I was wondering if there's a way to reduce the eco damage caused by boreholes, mirrors, and the like. I'm so tired of forests being the end all be all once hybrid forests hit the scene.

There isn't a real way. It's completely tied to the production of minerals.

The way to get around it in a game is a bug. Centauri Preserves and their upgrades of course reduce eco damage at a base, as well as your overall eco damage number or whatever (a faction wide number). If you scrap these facilities, you don't lose the bonus. And if you rebuild the facilities, you get the bonus again. Rinse and repeat and you build up a buffer against eco damage.

Hope that helps. I'm a bit rusty on the exacts, but the overall concept I described above is a proven trick.
