can you get the enemy to give up?

I was wondering. . .is there a way to get the enemy to surrender to you somehow? seems like there should be some way of doing that in the game.

About the closest you can some is to get all their gold, tech, and cites except the capitol as part of a peace deal.

And that still won't stop them pointlessly declaring war halfway across the globe when they have spearmen and no boats. Or wanting MPP's, ROPS, extortionate map trade etc.

technically, domination victory is the AI surrendering. domination is once you get 66% of all the land, all the other civs bow down to your power and recognize your dominace. that's sort of like surrendering.
