Cancelling Mutual Protection Pacts

Anybody know how one can cancel a mutual protection pact? I signed a pact with another civ which has long since outlived its usefulness, and now I keep getting drawn into wars that I don't have the resources to fight. The manual says pacts can be cancelled after 20 turns, but I can't figure out how to do it.

After 20 turns, the diplomatic screen should come up and you either cancel it, or extend it... I think.

meet the other Civ. Click on the option to propose a deal.

At the bottom, there should be "New" and "Active"

"Active" shows you active deals, and you can remove the MPP from there (no need to ask "will yo uaccept..." just remove it, go back to "New", then "Never mind". That should do it, IIRC

Narmox is correct. This also applies to right of passage agreements, trade embargoes, etc. The only time you will get a warning that a deal has expired is when it's a resource trade that has ended. You'll get a pop up window that says "We lost our supply of Ivory!" for example and then you can go and re-negotiate for the resource.

"do or do not, there is no try."

Thanks, that helps a lot (didn't even notice that "active" option there)! You're right, pacts last for 20 turns, but after that, they only expire on their own if the other party decides not to continue with it (And it appears that my "ally" was quite happy to have someone to draw enemy fire).

Hmm, so this applies the same with alliances too right?? I'm in a game right now where everyone is at war with at least on person..It's madness... I think I'm gonna pull out, my mpp just ended with the Germans and I'll just cancel my alliance with the Romans.
