The other night I decided to patch Civ3, well after patching I could no longer play the game, kept getting an error saying that I didn't have the CD in the drive despite that I did. So I uninstalled the game thinking I'd just reinstall it. Well during the uninstall, it glitched. Couldn't do something or another, and it just exited the uninstall. So I tried to uninstall again, no success. Restart, try again, same problem.

So I delete all the file manualy, go through my registry, remove all the civ/atari entries. Even deleted the Start Menu shortcuts. I try to reinsall, but the CD seems to think I still have the game installed. Can't do anything.

I've been reading that other people have had this exact same problem, and the only answer that was given was to reinstall the OS. Which seems far too extreme. There has to be something I'm missing. Despite that a search of my hdds shows no files containing "civ" in the name, and no files with "civ" in their text that point to something Civ3 related (yes I also search hidden and system files). There is however a Civ3 in the Add/Remove programs prompt, but it doesn't do anything either. So what could I possibly be missing?

A complete reinstall is out of the question because this PC is so terrible that it doesn't even have PCI slots (Compaq iPaq ftw)... so you can imagine that it most likely doesn't have a CD writer, nor any other useful features. It was free though, so I shouldn't complain.

Got it fixed,

Showed part of the answer, a little more googling showed the rest:

I was having the same problem, I just came up with the solution. There are two registry links that must be deleted, one of which is
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Infogrames and

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr
entVersion\Uninstall\This is a number code on of the folders at the top. Click on the first couple and you will see a CivIII title on the left

Just delete both of these folders, and the folder in the program files and it will work.

Hope this helps anyone else who runs accross this problem.
