Cannot change screen resolution

Ever since I installed Civ4 when it was released, In the options menu, under the tabs GRAPHICS, SOUND, and OTHER, there are no options.

In the Graphics tab, the only words are 'Screen Resolution'. There is no way to change it, just the text.

Now, none of this bothered me, I got on and enjoyed Civ4. The problem was when I upgraded my 17 inch monitor to a 19 inch widescreen. I am able to enjoy all of my games better, except for Civ 4, because I cannot change the resolution. I am unable to enjoy the game, because the resolution is wrong, and the screen is hideously stretched.

Please help!!!!

if you cannot see options it is likely something is not right with your install - but since it works for you I will not go into that.
you can force a resolution by doing the following:
open
documents and settings\<username>\my games\sid meier's civilization 4\civilizationIV.ini
and set the following two parameters to your desired resolution (they are by default set to 0 each I just quote how it looks in my files). If you run Warlords or Beyond the Sword you have to do the same in the respective file for that expansion.

; Custom Screen Height, ex: 768 - Normal resolutions can be set in-game and will be used when both values are set to 0
ScreenHeight = 1200

; Custom Screen Width, ex: 1024 - Normal resolutions can be set in-game and will be used when both values are set to 0
ScreenWidth = 1920
