"Cannot Locate the DVD-ROM"

my game's been working fine and now wont recognize its cd....WTH?

Hello,

Hats off to the 2K Games team for treating users to an extra little adventure, 'The Getting The Game To Run Game'.
Could become quite tedious, but I'm sure their intentions were purely for our joy and benefit. Thanks 2K.

Sobel MC, you've mentioned a patch, can you not put details on this forum, or is their rules against that?

It's great to think of how well us European users are thought of by the game developers that they'd give us a DVD version, and not take this into account during the installation process. A warm fuzzy loving feeling all over.

I wonder if they'd recognise a few English swear words......

I had this problem...but works fine now....see what I did below.

1) I install the game
2) I copy the Manuals from the 3rd CD
3) I put CD 1 in
4) Pop up window with choises
5) I select PLAY
5) Nothing happens
6) Since then I cannot read any of the 3 CD, even the one with only PDF on it. It's like the CD are all bad.

I had NERO installed, I uninstalled it but still cannot detect any of the 3 CD, I can't even see the files that are on them.

I read somewhere to install it in SAFE MODE, so I uninstall everything but even in safe mode I can't read all 3 CD anymore. (1x CD is just PDF manual french/english

I tried a few things and had no success....

I have a DVD-RW Sony (liteon) DW-Q28A, a freind of mine, after reading the post, noticed that most of the people with this problem were using DVD reader with DVD od CD-ROM....

I have another DVD-ROM I installed it, then was ablr to detect the CD again, I installed it again and no it works now but via an older DVD-ROM not my newer DVD-RW.

Like you, have tried the microsoft file but it wont work... simple question to fix this, does anyone have a NO CD crack at all?

If not, any ideas where I can get one?

Please, no mention of NO CD cracks on this site. CivFanatics does not support piracy and the thread will be closed. With so many people having problems we do not want this thread closed.

I ma thinking Sobel MC solution must be exactly this....I have found another way, I am against all cracks/hacks...But I have to admit that after spending a full day trying to get the game to work that I would not condem anyone for using a crack when they paid big bucks for a game that just doesn't work !!

Funny thing: I had the same problem with the DVD, but when I downgraded my nVidia drivers to 71.89 the problem went away... How those two things are related is beyond me.

Now I got a hold of a GeForce 7800GTX, which is not supported by the 71.89 drivers, the problem is back... :-(

Still don't have CIV IV working but I am learning a lot of new stuff about bypassing copy protection and game piracy in general.

So it hasn't been a complete waste of time.

Yeah its ironic before i had this problem i did not have a clue how to copy games :D i finally got it working after making a copy, mounting it and hiding with sd4hide program it now works but is buggy and freezes often i am waiting for a patch to correct this if it does not arrive this week i will send game back for a refund i cannot explain how disapointed i am with this release i have waited for this game for too long it makes me mad

You know you hear two bit thieves who go to prison and come out fully trained in the arts of theft and corruption.

I know this has all been said before but I want to keep this thread going in the vain hope that it will lead to a patch solution.

I have installed Civ 4 on a totally brand new, clean machine. I am playing Myst 5 and AoE III on it. I still can't get passed the 'wrong DVD' carp with Civ 4.

I could handle bugs in the game, that always happens, AoE is already working on its second patch but Civ 4 I can't even get started. The game insists on telling me that the DVD I paid for is actually the wrong one! (Even though the game installed from it)

I don't want to install Alcohol or Daemon tools or whatever, I shouldn't need too! All I want is a patch to tell my game that the DVD I put in my drive is actually the right one!

Not too much to ask is it?

Yes it is too much to ask, what type of business do you think we run here anyway ?.

We are not in this business to make gamers like you happy, we are here to make money and we did with you.

So please now stop demanding crazy things and start using your coasters the right way, these coasters are great for when you will play others games you clam work....We all know that is a lie, these days company builds coasters only.

We never got complaints from people that are using these coasters for what they were built to be used.

Don't bother looking for info about this on our website either, you would just waste your time.

We value you as a customer and get ready for the new and Improved Civ 5 coasters.
Sincerly Yours

Well after trying and trying the fixes here I finally got it to work!

Spent £300 and got an uber-geek colleagues 2 year old machine that he's replacing and it runs like a dream! Just a shame I've got to get my tax returns in soon, as I'll be glued to the game for while ;)

And as a by product of this process, I've been fully trained up in the arts of modern s/w piracy. Thanks 2k!

This this thread still going? If so, I too have the "Please insert the correct CD-ROM, select OK and restart the application".

So I downloaded the latest version of Alcohol 120% and mounted an image of the game in the virtual drive. Downloaded sd4hide, ran it, and pressed hide. Tried to run the game but to no avail, I still get the same "Please insert the correct CD-ROM, select OK and restart the application." I've tried a combination of those steps at least thirty times. Nothing.

I've tried every solution in this whole forum but nothing works. I really have no idea what else there is to do. Should I just try to get my money back?

Does it matter what kind of file is loaded into the virtual drive? I have made two IMG files of the game, two MDF files of the game, and one MDS file of the game. I don't exactly know how to make a ISO file of the game. Is that my problem? I have another game that works perfectly with an MDS file in the virtual drive. So I don't know...

If anyone has any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated.

i also cant get it to work, using alcohol or deamon, with some hider also wont work. i also own legal version :<

Which is why it's so frustrating! I sure hope that the store will accept my copy back. I don't think I'll try to purchase another one. Sadly, that might be my last Civilization game. I don't have that kinda of money to waste on a product that doesn't even work.
