Hey all, I am having a tough time downloading and installing the Mod. Is there a simple install that I am missing? All I see is like 8 mods to load to do it and it fails every time. I am going to GitHub

Hi Zadera,

please check the thread Installation problem.
There is also a "readme" included in the download which should help.

If you have further problems, let us know.

If the download itself already fails, then I currently don't know why. :dunno:
It seems to work for other community members.

This is the link to our current beta:
https://github.com/We-the-People-civ4col-mod/Mod/releases/tag/2.7.2-beta-1

We will try to publish a new Improvement Release soon though. (That includes all improvements and bugfixes since the beta was published.)
It will most likely be made available at other download sites as well. (e.g. ModDB)

Please note:
There are also 2 DLL files included. Simply select the one you prefer.
(by copy-pasting it from the DLL-folder into "Assets" of the mod install directory)
  • 2-Plot-DLL --> RaR city radius style (the mod WTP is based on)
  • 1-Plot-DLL --> Classic Civ4Col city radius style
Is there a simple install that I am missing?
We will also try to make the installation a bit easier for the future.

Why is the 1-plot dll the default in the current beta? Has it been decided that this is the best way forward for the mod?

I have played with 2-plot for years, although I may try a new game with 1-plot to see how it goes.

Having the option for both does seem to present huge balance issues.

I use only 1plot in smaller maps and 2plot only in the largest 3 mapsizes. Only there does it make sense that a city could grow that big and control so many squares.

Well, we just had to pick one as default. :dunno:
Maybe next release we will reconsider and have 2-Plot-DLL as default.

No, we did not decide anyhting like that. We just offer both options to our players.
We will not remove 2-Plot-DLL, do not worry. Most of us really like to play that way.

It is a small balancing issue, I agree. (e.g. for features as "Health" and "Happiness" it needs to be considered)
For most other features that are not so strongly tied to "City Population" it should not be a real problem.

------

Summary:

The alternatives now exist for the players to choose by their personal taste. :)
Both will be continued by the team. We will try to consider it in our balancing as well.

But of course it feels quite different in your games if you play play 2-Plot-DLL or 1-Plot-DLL.
Do you prefer to play "wide" (1-Plot) with many smaller specialised cities or "tall" (2-Plot) with fewer but bigger mega-cities?
It of course also strongly depends on Mapsizes.

However, I also believe that we should have the 2-Plot-DLL as default for all upcoming releases.
We will discuss it again internally.

I made the decision to use the one plot dll. The issue is that a number of people fail to install a dll and to avoid that one of them had to become the default. Based on my subjective impression of the forum posts, one plot would be the most wanted choice for people who fail to read the readme. We should likely stick to 1 plot now because people updating and not reading the readme will have 1 plot savegames by now.

If you want 2 plot radius, just copy the dll file.

Starting from WTP 2.8 there will only be one dll and then the game will ask you if you want 1 or 2 plots when starting a new game. Since this change prevents loading existing savegames, the change has been postponed to the version, which breaks savegame compatibility anyway. In addition to solving the dll issue, making the radius a runtime setup means the same dll can load savegames from both 1 and 2 plot games.

Thanks for all the help guys. I will try to reinstall it this weekend
