Sorry if this is a repost.

Now that G&K is installed, I’ve noticed that I cannot start Golden Ages with my Great People anymore. Is this correct or a bug?

Many Thanks.

Only artist. General's citadel now gets artist's culture bomb. Golden Age duration is not reduced by successive uses of Artists. Golden Ages give bonuses to culture now as well as money and hammers.

I disagree with that. Golden ages are good for anyone, but in Persia's case, especially good militarily. If you're playing for a culture victory, you're probably not fielding 10-15 spearmen with double-move. You probably have 2 or 3 and completely wasting the potential.

edit: your dune wars link looks cool and almost makes me wish I still had civ4 installed.

Persia could do well as few megacity cities and lots of pppeted ones. Puppeted ones while do not demand culture for counter do provide it from numerous buildings. Correct sequence of SP choices allow several GA (using GArtists as free GP), which also boosts culture outcome. As finalle you could get both huge spearmen army if you start with Tradition and get free amphitheatres. (which require from you monuments in first 2-3 cities to make that SP choice effective > then liberty > piety) and gives you GA slot very early. At least it working very well at Emperror lvl.

I always make Landmarks when going for culture victories. Is the culture from GAs now better than the culture from landmarks?

Depends of your culture output allocation. I just started my new random civ game Emperror lvl and rolled Persia, and trying to go Culture/Military to combine warmongering/puppetereeng/culture spam and GA/SP/Happiness Golden ages. So far feel as very solid strat. The bonus seem to be 20%. As for GArtists i am sure for Persia its better to use them for GA since they have their GA bonus, which comes now with culture bonus, which advances them thru Liberty/Piety for more GA/GArtists.

"Culture from golden ages" is a 20% bonus during the period, not a fixed point amount. Also from what I've seen, this is calculate after your building/ national wonder/ policy bonuses, so your bonuses get the bonus. So, epic speed from my experience, say you have 670 total culture per turn in the early-mid 1800s and you're able to "roll out" fairly successive artists for 15 turns each, you'll be receiving a 134 bonus per turn (net 2010) or roughly 1/5 of a policy each artist, provided you get christo redentor.

Also, I've never fielded a huge army early, aiming at a culture victory. I guess you can, but I get hella bored clicking next turn if the game lasts much past 1900.

edit: thinking about it makes my stomach churn, adding a factor of bad faction AI diplo hits when I'm trying to minimize my "imprint", maintain science, grab wonders... I bet you succeed and I bet the game lasts to 2050, but that doesn't sound fun to me.

It just depends on challenge/level. If challenge is big enough u wont be able to conquest too fast, but also will have the challenge to keep your interest. Now i've hit medieval and already feeling this is going to be easy and conquest ending game . (So no Cultural win, just GA 3-way spammage ) = Tradi opener + amphi/ Liberty/ Piety, GArtists , GA wonder, GP speed wonder - 2, Peace Gardens (2 happy per gardens), culture based pantheon (lucky got 3 pastures in capital), happiness output is positive (its much easier to maintain happiness in G&K at "+")

Golden Ages give +20% total :c5culture:, and total really means total, including city output after modifiers and :c5culture: from city states and Mandate of Heaven. As all GP improvements landmarks are very good if you build them early and you have to decide for yourself when you've passed the point that you'll get more from a GA.
Ther are of course other factors to consider: Do you already holy sites with the Piety finisher ? Do you have Chitchen Itza ? Do you need the economy buff right now ?

Well, don't do that. The subject was culture victory. Try to win culturally doing what you planned. :P

bah the strat working so well that i am really sorry that i might to win this one much earlier thru conquest :D

(ps: my luck were 2 cows and 1 horse in capital , which provided +6 early culture with pantheon, huge for culture spamming, then free amphitheatres, and then GA generation combined with SP free GP and GA)
