Can't Declare War? (Probably because I cannot cancel the peace treaty)

Hi Guys,
As you can se from the title I'd love to make a DOW on Carthage, but I cannot and when I started looking I saw that there was a peace treaty for 10 turns, but every turn it says 10 turns. So tried to cancel my trade agreements and the peace treaty but is always says that I cannot. Has anyone run into this? I just recently started playing BTS and I can't recall ever running into this before. Any help is much appreciated.

it's to stop you from demanding techs, gold and stuff from enemies right before you declare war.

Whenever the AI gives a demand or asks for help and you accept, a ten turn peace treaty is initiated.

when your trading for example, ask for a world map for free, a ten turn peace treaty is also initiated. You gotta wait a couple more turns to declare on carthage...

It would be nice to know when the peace treaty expires rather then just waiting until it does, that way I can plan the exact moment to roll the troops accross the border

It expires 10 turns after you made it.

You can look up in Foreighn Advisor -> Active screen.

The Screen list treaties so it will Allways say "Peace Treaty 10 Turns" - its what you signed.

If you go with the Mouse over the treaty, a tool tip will appear, saying "Can be canceled after XY turns..."

This imo needs fixing,i think it's a stupid rule .
It should be that the person who makes the demand/request can't then declare war for 10 turns.I can understand why they brought in this rule cos we all demanded a tech from the AI just before we DOW.

I'M just playing my first BTS game and Ragnar asked for Alphabet, which i gave him to stay pleased with me.It makes no sense what so ever that i can't declare war on him if i want to.There's nothing to stop him doing this every 10 turns, crazy.

Sure there is. All you need to do is refuse his offer.

It used to be there was no restriction. You could demand tribute and declare war right after. I suppose it was deemed an exploit, and the automatic peace treaty was added in BTW (or 3.13?) to prevent that exploit.

Makes sense to me.. AI offers are now a double-edged sword, if you're preparing to go to war with them...

Agreed. Thankfully the times you give in to demands are rarely the times you are able to fight a war against the same AI.

What's real annoying is this I'm playing a game as the Arabs, and i'm exploring the globe with my caravels and galleons. But Joao is also exploring, so i ask him for his world map so i can see what he has explored, BUT the next turn he settles a city on my continent, exactly where i want to settle, but i can't declare war on him for another 9 turns!

You could just not give him the tech. Why would you pay tribute to someone you're going to attack in under 10 turns anyway? He is not going to stay pleased with you when you attack him.

I remember in Warlords getting a demand for tribute from Montezuma. I accepted it and the very next turn he declared war on me! So that feature also protects you from the AI reneging on their deal

That's because the automatic peace treaty upon request/demand acceptance wasn't added until BTS. Oh, I see. I guess you weren't refuting it, just giving an example of how it can work in your favor.
