Hi, I'm texter, this is my first post in this forum.
Sorry if this was asked before, I just couldn't find the answer by searching this forum.

Now question;

When you are sailing back to new world from Europe,
your ship will reach east edge of the map(Atlantic) if that ship
exited east last time, and will reach west(Pacific) if exited west.
(Though I can't find any specific description in the game manual,
I thought that was the rule)

BUT after my privateers reached (and exited)west edge of the map,
I find my galleons that should reach east edge(because exited east)
now sometimes appearing on the west edge of the map. Big problem.

Are there any rule or command that can determine your way to new world?
Or is it just random?

you have one point on the map where your . .. .. .. . enter from europe. thats the point where you last set sail for the old world... so a big kingdom or pirate raiding can realy be hard. so i normaly get the smuglers house so i dont have to wurry about the trade, just war and pirates...

no way i know of that fix this problem so i just sail from the east and close to my main port.

Thanks for your comments, Da nerd.

It is very annoying when I find my ships arriving west edge of the map
instead of east where it last exited.
That means I can't even bring my elder statesmen or dragoons from europe
as scheduled.

Should I conclude "NEVER exit west unless you have no need for
any material or colonists from europe"?

Is this a well-known feature in colonization?

Exporting goods to Europe and importing goods and colonists can be tricky, but in my games I find I can manage once I know how it works.

A ship that goes to Europe will return to the New World at the same spot where it left from. It will contain the same goods it left Europe with, but not necessarily the same colonists. The problem occurs when there are several ships travelling at the same time. Colonists can apparantly change ships in mid-Atlantic :mischief: The best way to work around this is to ensure that you only send ships to Europe from one port each turn. That way when they leave Europe they will all be heading for that same port. If I have colonies on both coasts I send ships from the East Coast one turn and from the West Coast the next turn. Even so this still does occasionally screw up, but it works most of the time. However while there is a problem with colonists I can't ever remember seeing the ship itself appearing at the wrong spot.

When you buy a new ship in Europe and send it to the New World it will appear at the spot from which you last sent a ship to Europe. So if you send a privateer to Europe from the West Coast and then buy a new galleon in Europe, it will appear on the West Coast.

This is for the DOS version 3.0.

Thanks for your detailed description.

Yes, it is true that the problem occurs when I simultaneously send ships from europe which are bound for different coasts, and when those ships are WITH colonists.

Understanding the way how it works, now I am able to expand my colonies on both coasts. Also, your technique which controls destinations for newly bought ships, is an essential one.

Thanks again, it was very helpful !
