I'm playing a game on Immortal with England on a small map. After a few early wars to get some breathing space I'm trying to tech peacefully. Problem is, ever since I fought Carthage back in ~1000 BC I've never been able to get Dido to let my ambassadors in again (it is now 650 AD). Weird thing is I've got lots of trades going with her and excellent (friendly, +10 happy faces) relations... The only two negatives now are ''-1 : You kicked our ambassadors out'' and ''-1 : You refused to help us during wartime'', yet she still won't establish embassies again. We also have the same religion. It's rather annoying because I was hoping to get her into a defensive pact later on. Suggestions?
On another note, if I may comment on the gameplay balance in this mod, I would say that the AI doesn't handle all the new features particularly well. It's like there are too many things to do for it to work properly. In normal BTS I get my ass whooped on Immortal, but in ROM it's not even that bad... With super-specialized cities it's possible to be extremely efficient with 4-5 cities compared to the AI. Even at this difficulty setting my GNP is about 3 times that of my closest competitor at the moment. It was sort of tough in the ancient/classical periods of the game because then I had to play the aggressive war-monger card to expand sufficiently, but after I had some good land secured I pulled ahead effortlessly with only one super-science city, one 'wall street + production' city (the capital) and two cottage farms. So essentially if you can match the number of cities that the AI has and build on decent terrain, there's no reason you shouldn't win since it doesn't seem to be able to develop them intelligently. That's not criticism, by the way, but more like an observation. I love the mod, it's far more in-depth and historically accurate than the vanilla game. Congratulations are in order for everyone involved.
