cant figure out how to do espionage

for some reason, no matter what ive tried, i cant figure out how to plant a spy, and then do espionage missions. all i can do is investigate city or steal tech. i have intelligence agency. any ideas?

im running vanilla, not sure which version, or where to find that

Been a long time and it was always a pain to find the espionage in vanilla. iirc you can double click the icon on the town with the IA. There is a shortcut, but I forget what it was. I think it was shift D or E. Good reason to get C3C or complete as it is easy in those versions.

Is the 'Plant Spy' button greyed out or is that what you can't find?

IIRC, in vanilla you don't even get the espionage screen - that arrived with PTW?? Don't you get a menu of some type asking you what you want to do and it goes from there?

Shift+E should get you there, otherwise look at the minimap - along the righthand side you should see a little 'E' button - click on that. The letters run DEPH. Look at the picture below, lower right hand corner.

I don't think the interface exists until C3C. The one with D/E/P/H that you can use as a short cut to various screens. At least it did not have the E for Espionage.

the E is there when it should be

however, no matter where i am in the game, even with IA, there are only two options available, "investigate city" and "steal technology." no where have i ever seen a plant spy button

The E did not exist on the original C3 as I recall. I remember having lots of hassles getting to espionage. Now that I have C3C, the C3 and PTW are not as they were originally. In any event I cannot think of a reason why you would have no plant spy and have an IA, unless you already had a spy or lack the cash.

I think you can plant a spy on a civ even with an MPP/RoP, no diplo limits. Does hitting F3 and selecting that nation show their troops? If it does you have spy. A spy is not needed to steal tech as long as you are not at war, so I cannot tell from that.

If F3 does not show troops and you have cash and still cannot plant, post a save.

This should be a rough approximation on how to do it.

First, click on icon by your capital city.

Then select create a spy.

Pick with whom you wish to place the spy.

Confirmation that it was successful. (You can be caught and the spy will be immediately killed; could result in a DOW)

Then select to use the spy. (Enter the espionage screen by Shift+E or use the "E" button as I explained earlier)

Finally select what you want the spy to do. Remember that using the spy could result in his death, DOW or dirty looks from the AI leaders.
