Hi I especially purchsed an original copy of Civilization II, Test of Time s that I could get the graphics when getting Wonders etc (Hey it gives you a sense of pride ok?!)..

I have a Windows XP, 512Mb RAM, 28 GB.
On My home computer the computer shows a red cross (why does Microsoft have to be so vague??) and an 'OK" button.. aaaaarrrrrgh. This computer does not have a DVD Rom.. is this a problem? its a CD rom only?.

On the lap top (which has has same specs as above but with DVDRom) I have downloaded Indeo Codec. The Intro Graphics play , but not for wonders- I check the viewing options and have it all 'switched on'.

Any help would be greaty appreciate; its the best game of any...

No message at all?

Nope, as far as I know ToT was shipped only on CD, not DVD.

nope no message at all..... just a littleWindows XP box with a x button (like when you close down) and a "OK" button

any idea?

thanks

I worked out that the red x meant that the computer is still 'thinking' . The game installed about 6 hours later!! (I discovered this when I left the computer on).

When I played Civ II back when it was released on another computer-it had movies for when you discover wonders. I now can only viewvthe intro movie; not the wonders...

It is possible that this is not a legit copy of Civ II ??? the merchant seemed OK..

Yes it's a legit copy, but it's a different version. It's got very dark and fuzzy graphics, right? Unit animation? Multiplayer?

It's the latest version of Civ2 (released in 1999, compared to 1996 for the original). They added lots of features... At the cost of the wonder movies among other things.

You might have to go find another copy of Civ2 if you really want the movies, making sure it's either the original Civ2 or the "multiplayer gold edition".

Here are the box covers. The cover of the version you have should look similar to this:

While if you want the movies you'll have to get one of these:

http://www.mobygames.com/game/civilization-ii-multiplayer-gold-edition

yes i have both of these..

both Test of Time and the Original.

When I played my friends copy of Test of Time (yes the fantasy one) it had movies too (as well as the original).

Oh well...... im giving up .. will have to upgrade and get going on Civ 4.

Thanks so much for your help though.... and happy civving!!
