OK, here's the deal.
I bought and installed Civilization IV several month ago. I'm pretty sure it was from Take-Two, but I'm not 100% sure. But it was a legit copy that I paid for through a legit website. No problems there.
Before I go on, I should say I've never been able to get the updates to work. The build I have is 1.6.1.1841 (45604). I downloaded the executable for the 1.74 patch and I also tried the in-game option for updating Civ IV; neither worked. Either way, the install program tells me that there is no version of Civ IV installed, which obviously isn't true. I've played through the game many times.
I do not have any expansions installed; BTS is the first I've tried.
I have 64 bit Vista with all updates installed, up-to-date DirectX 9, a 500 gig hard drive, 4 gigs of ram, 2.33 ghz quad-core processor, and 1 gig of dedicated video memory on a GeForce 9500 GT. And there's plenty of hard drive space currently for the expansion.
I just bought BTS from Direct2Drive. It looks like exactly what I'd love to play. But when I try to install BTS, it has some kind of error. After I agree to the License and all it says this: "Setup is searching for updated DirectX Runtime Components and updating as necessary. This may take a few minutes..." After a few seconds, I get this error message in a window: "The patch failed to install! Aborting installation." The only button is the OK button, and when I click that, it closes out the window. End of story. And installation.
Anybody know what the problem is? I'm stumped here, but I'd love to be able to play BTS sometime. Especially since I already paid $20 for it. Thanks much for your help.
