When I tried to open the shortcut I got a message saying "Unable to execute file: \Civ4BeyondSword.exe
CreateProcess Code: code 2. The system cannot find the file specified" What am I doing wrong?
Not sure if it's the same issue I initially had, but my default install location for the mod is "C: / Program Files (x86) / Steam / steamapps / common / Sid Meier's Civilization IV Beyond the Sword / Beyond the Sword / Mods".
To make the mod work, I had to make a copy of the installed mod folder ("RFC Dawn of Civilization") and paste it in "Documents / My Games / beyond the sword / Mods".
For me, the game won't run unless there's a copy in both folders.
Hello, I recently wanted to come back and try DoC for the first time in a decade. I initially installed Civ 4 and all the expainsions onto my external D: drive to save space on my C: drive, and installed DoC into the program files 86x / steam folder, "Civ IV - Beyond the Sword / Beyond the Sword / Mods" folder. This showed up within the game when I tried to select a mod, but would kick out to the desktop, and when gone through the deskop I got the same error as above:
"Unable to execute file: \Civ4BeyondSword.exe
CreateProcess Code: code 2. The system cannot find the file specified"
I have then reinstalled only BTS in my C: drive, and then tried installing in my "C:\Users\[USER]\OneDrive\Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\MODS" folder, as well as my program files again. I still get the same issue, despite trying the fix above of trying various Mods folders.
Is there anything else I can do to troubleshoot this? Is OneDrive the issue here, or am I simply installing it in the wrong place? @Leoreth
Hello and welcome back! The correct location is not the Documents\ path, regardless of OneDrive. To be more specific, the Civ4BeyondSword.exe should be found in a Beyond the Sword\ directory. In the same directory you should find a Mods\ folder - that is where the mod directory is supposed to go.
Also make sure that the mod folder is named "RFC Dawn of Civilization". If that isn't enough, please also check a few common troubleshooting tips from the Welcome to DoC thread.
Thank you so much for your speedy reply. I am unsure quite what you mean, I have tried installing in the Beyond the Sword\ directory that has the .exe file, in the correct Mods\ folder, such that it shows up in game, but I still get the code 2 error. I have attached screenshots to help, but is there an issue with my installation?
The location and directory name look right. Since this is a new Steam install, have you taken the steps to set up Steam for using mods? You should be able to find additional information on that on the forum. Since I am not a Steam user, I can't give you any more detailed information.
I have tried using the beta version of the game from Steam but I still got the same problem. I installed a different mod (FFH2) in Beyond the Sword/Mods and got a similar problem where the mod can't find the right .exe file to run, and doesn't run from the mod menu either, which indicates there is probably something wrong in how I am installing these mods or any residual Steam permissions.
I have made sure the game is 3.19 version, and that BeyondTheSword.exe runs in administrator mode.
If anyone has any advice on what else to troubleshoot, I would appreciate it. Thanks.
