I get this error when I try:

"Civilization IV must be activated before Civilization IV: warlords can be installed

Please run Civ 4 once to complete activation, The run the installer."

I ran Civ 4 twice. I finally got the Directdrive patch to install after messing with that, now this. Any way to unconfuse this installer?

After installing the new patch I noticed that I now have two Civ 4 paths on 2 different drives now. One is activated, the other isnt. Now I have to figure out where I downloaded it from to get the code. Is there somewhere in registry?

Welcome to CFC :band:

this is a direct2drive issue - the normal game does not require activation. As such you should definitely ask D2D for help. I guess you need to open your Firewall to allow Civ4 to call home before you can install the expansion.

Edit: you did get it from d2d, right? if not you need to go to the vendor you bought it from.

I got this from gamespot.com, which downloads from trymedia.com. I got the patch from gamespot, same issue. I try and install 1.74 and it tells me Civ 4 is not installed, so I stall have 1.61. I can probably update it from the game itself but not sure I should go that route. I even tried patching it from the game itself, it will download the patch and then tell me the game doesn't exist when I try and install it lol.

I got Warlords from Direct2drive,

When I try and install it I get "Civ 4 must be activated before warlods can be installed. Please run Civ 4 once to activate."

Civ 4 is activated, but when I tried installing warlords a second exe was created.

This path works and is activated: "F:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization IV\Civilization4.exe"

This one isnt activated: "F:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Civilization4.exe"

When I click the second path it asks for an activation code, but I was never given one. Trying to get that now to see if it helps but Im not sure why warlords just can't use the original path.

mixing two different digital versions is bound to cause nightmares - unfortunately the digital distribution of this game is seriously messed up :gripe:
My fear is that the D2D installer looks for a registry key that tells it that Civ4 is installed and cannot find it because Trymedia uses a different key.
Unfortunately the only real advice I can give you is
1) either exchange one of the distributions so that both games are from the same source
or
2) contact both trymedia and D2D and explain what you are trying to achieve - they should support their games enough to give install instructions :dunno:
