Can't play Multiplayer!

Simple as that, I try to play but multiplayer is unselectable and it says you must have steam open and a valid internet connection. The problem is I have both of those conditions fulfilled.
Please any help would be nice.

Is Steam running in Offline mode?I tried running it like that just now, and it won't let me play internet either.

So, that may be your problem.To check and see if your online or not, just open Steam and on the main page click on the menu in the top left that says "Steam".If Steam is in offline mode, it should say "Go Online" somewhere on that menu.

And just let it restart if it has to.
