Can't play online

I have recently gotten civilzation 3: conquest, which includes the play teh world expansion pack. But, when I try to play online, it tels me I have an incompatible version! I Have tried to download teh patches, but internet explorer won't load the download patch page. Help!

What exactly is your problem with IE downloading the patches?
