Can't start the game- Help, Help

I tried to update my sound drivers and it did not change my problem unfortunatly

Then I tried starting the game furiously a couple times just to see if it would do the trick, but with no luck

Every time it starts the .exe for like 2 seconds and then "~e5.0001" opens and then both closes

Heres another picture of the file;

If it helps the developers or programmers or whoever, the company name from the file is "Macrovision Europe Ltd."

Same problem, game starts for a few seconds, then gets to the XML loading, then simply stops.

As I mentioned in another thread, what is weird is that the game was working great until I deleted my user account and created another user admin account. That is when the problem started, so its NOT the drivers on the Nvidia GeForce 5500. I uninstalled Civ4, rebooted, and reinstalled it, the problem persists.

Hey Firaxis... here is my log file, init.log

[3126.187] DBG: FILE Cat Init
[3126.343] DBG: NOT Using XML cache, failed to find crc.dat file
[3126.343] DBG: Game Init
[3126.343] DBG: Multiplayer Init

I hope this helps.

Okay, I remember seeing that crc.dat file in the Cache folder, but after I deleted it to fix this very problem, it is gone....... how do we replace it?

Where is this cache folder people keep referring too. When I installed I click the 'install for all users option'. My folder directory is 'C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4'. I have turned on 'see invisible' and still see no cache folder. I have now installed the game several times. Updated to the most recent drivers for both sound and video. Like I mentioned in my earlier post the sound driver made it less problematic but still persists.

I would love too get some advice on how too fix this from some of the 'technically oriented' or whatever. While 1 in 3 times I can get it to load, when it needs too reset too load my save (or a new scenario) it just closes out and does the same as if I hit it too start. (see my first post in this thread for exactly what I mean).

The game runs fine on my wife's computer. Which is funny since her sound card is older than mine, and same with the drivers. Her vid card is new (a 6800 GT GeForce), but it's the same onboard memory as mine. In all other aspects the computers are identical though. I'm trying too refrain from blaming the devs for releasing a unfinished game so as too avoid the fanbois, but would LOVE some advice on what too fix on mine.

Would really love too avoid a reformat as that would take forever and I'm pretty sure wouldn't fix the problem as windows has only been on this computer for about a year and a half.

I got mine to work.

I thought I'd try suggested solutions even though many of them didn't make sense.... it was just a shot in the dark but it worked.

I went back and downloaded/installed the newest drivers for my sound card, a Realtek High Definition Audio, and its working now.

I hope this helps.

I think, as others have said, that the next thing in the init.log file that fails is the sound card. Deal with the sound card.

I've updated my sound card driver and it did lessen the problem. Any further advice? What else could I try as I'm betting it's a sound card conflict as well.
