I found a record on ship capture from the American Civil War
Semmes, Raphael
When Alabama, his home state, seceded from the Union (January 1861), Semmes resigned his commission as commander, and with the outbreak of war in April he received a similar appointment in the Confederate Navy. After capturing 17 Union merchant ships while in command of the packet Sumter, he was assigned to command the Alabama, newly built in England. Between 1862 and 1864 he made a series of brilliant and successful cruises, capturing, sinking, or burning 82 Union ships valued at more than $6,000,000.
