Catapults sometimes give only 7% Defense Reduction

I was attacking an AI city and noticed that when I bombarded the city with my catapult stack every third bombard only reduced city defenses by 7% instead of 8%.

Mecca started at 85% defense. The same thing happens whether the bombard occurs as a stack or if the catapults bombard individually. The catapults are all identical in terms of promotions and health.

My understanding is that BTS changed it so that the bombard % for siege is now absolute and not a % of the city's defense value. If it is still a relative % then the cats should be reducing defenses by 6.8 each (85 times 8%).

To recreate open the save game and press end turn. The select the cat stack next to Mecca and bombard.

The bombard is indeed changed to points not % anymore. The confusion is that, the game display is still in %. so it had to convert the point into %. catapults reduce defense by 6 point, total city defense is 85, 6/85 is roughly equal 7%. So it is indeed reducing the defense by 7% each time. If the same catapult bombard a 20% defense city, it would show 6/20, rought 30% reduction each hit.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. First of all I'm not sure where you got the 6 points for catapult defense reduction. According to the mouse over info and the Civilopedia catapults reduce city defense by 8%. Also if you look at the values in the event log you'll see that sometimes the city defenses were reduced by 8% and sometimes by 7%.

I remember seeing somewhere that although siege bombard values were reduced it was changed from the relative approach in Vanilla and Warlords to an absolute value reduction in BTS. It's not listed in the Civilopedia or manual though.

But neither approach explains the pattern that I saw (two 8% reductions followed by a 7% reduction).
