...with plastic eyeballs.
Lets see. I just took out the Brits. sense they where the only ones within reach, boats all sunk... After doin this I find all the other civs, thanks to the the Indians, who finally sail over, say hi, and plnat a town five squares from my poorly managed capitol. I hang out with Ghandi and find that everyone, and I mean everyone, is about five billion techs ahead of me!!! Imagine my surprise when I told him "yeah, well have you got four hundred swordman?" and he says "No, their all knights by now."

Punk...

Any way, I am about 5 techs behind the top three civs. They all hate me for taking out the Brits and calling them all ninnies. Any suggestions on how to make up the tech gap? I am still in ok terms, but they don't want anything I have... I'm stuck in third out 8 places, not to bad for my first time on Regent... Would probably just start over.

keyword: embassy. steal those techs from them.

How much cash do you have? Could be time to go shopping . . . .

Try to trade luxuries for gold, and either use the gold for buying techs or stealing them. :mwaha:

move the science slider up
build more libraries/univercitys
WLTKD
steal them
buy them

edit-why did i put cathedrals i meant univercitys

move science slider down, trade for techs. BTW techs are cheaper to buy if you have part-researched them. I've never really tried the steal tech option, but hey, they can't hate you much more than they already do now can they?

my games always seem to go thru the same progression - i get way behind quickly on tech, have a relatively weak military, so i just concentrate on land development and build, build, build city improvements. i keep my tech research at 10% or even 0%, and i place a priority on money producing improvements. be patient, be skillful with diplomacy to avoid war (and have allies if war is unavoidable). what military you do have, concentrate on defensive units. it almost always happens that i suddenly have an explosion of money as my city improvements come on line and soon i'm buying techs and catching up.

the builder strategy will be a lot more dicey in MP. i have the sneaking suspicion that MP will result in a lot of sudden savage attacks.

in MP you'll see the expansionist civ's miles ahead, and only trading with likewise powerful people and the poor slow starters will be miles behind. I think the zulus may well be the best civ for MP :) And only one person could be the zulus too.

I agree with GI Josh. If your not trying to dominate, then become a cash cow. The AI Civ's are whores and will sell they're own mother if you have enough.

I find that i am normally the most technologically advanced civ, but in the game i am playing right now it is 1942 AD and the best offencive units i have now are still infantry and artillery. ( i am getting a new tech every 4-6 turns) I can never reach the top of the tech tree by the end of the game. Since i am ahead of the comp, i cannot buy tech, and my tech rate is already 60-70%, what should i do??? [all my major cities have universities, (around 15 level 14 cities) and i have built newtons university.]

Deathwish: be happy! if you are out in front then you're doing something right! If you want more of a challenge, take the difficulty up a notch. Chieftain (which i assume is the level you are on) and Warlord will be slower to get the techs because there is no competition, you're always miles ahead.

Bobgote:
I don't think tech leads will last long in multiplayer. The techs cost less as more people discover them. This should counteract the expansionist trait. I think resource hoarding will be a much bigger part of the game than tech leads.

In MP it would be a good idea for you and a friend to research different techs and trade to eachother. This would really help keep up with the other civs on higher levels and crush them. Give eachother techs if needed. Then once you have the AI under control, go after eachother.

how do you manage? in my current game (as babylonians), im an entire AGE (literally) ahead of the AI´s. it could be that im the only democrazy. the AI´s are at war all the time. which is no wonder, with Shaka-khan, Samurai-bonanza and Panzer-yahoo as the on the same continent. :-)

Dynamic Cow: Again, which difficulty are you on? If this is on monarch or higher then you have my sincere admiration.

Alexander: It still makes a huge difference when it takes 24-40 turns for a tech and you can get 4-5 out of goody huts. The lead is easier to catch up to, but that doesn't make it easy altogether.

I was playing on the easies difficulty level, do you mean that the harder the difficulty, the faster i will get tech???

Yep. This is becuase the AI researches much faster and trading buying and stealing are more useful. You ought to try regent sometime. It's easy. Just attack with archers and stuff very early.

quick question.... In every game i have played (usually above regent) buying techs is almost always cheaper then stealing it on the first option (the risky one). So whats the point of stealing and maybe being caught when u can buy for cheaper?
