Cavalry upgrade

I like the idea of upgrading cavalry to tanks because I mass my cavalry for massive attackes agaisnt of civs on my contient in a final push to get it for my own. After the wars are over and I've gone into the industrial age I'm left with hundreds of cavalry but no use for them. Why Tanks instead of a light armor? Because by the time I have enough tanks for a invaision it's already the modern age and everyone has Mech inf. so they are useless.
