256 RAM
35 free GB

Please HELP!

Disable all third-party applications, and perhaps try running a virus scan. It sounds like something tried to write to the CD. What kind of CD ROM drive do you have? Is it a re-writer?

Also: Was this a windows-generated error, or an installer-generated one?

I did the third party dealy already and that didnt work, it's not a RW drive. Should i get a new disc?

I haven't actually seen this error before, so am just guessing really. You could try the following (seeing as you have lots of disk space free):

Try copying the entire CD contents to a temporary directory on your hard-drive, then running the install from that. No guarantees that it will work, but its worth a shot.

The message is now "I/O Device Error"

Well IM not but when I install I go to another accout.

In that case, the 'good' news is that its not the CD that is the problem. The 'bad' news is that your CD-ROM drive isn't working properly.

Do you have any problems reading from any other CD-ROMs? If you go to the control panel, and then double-click on 'system', it will bring up a form. Click the 'hardware' tab, then 'device manager'. This will give you a list of all hardware installed on your PC. Expand out the DVD/CDROMs tag, and see if there are any little exclamation marks next to the drives.

This is the only one that i have ever had. Its not a DVD Drive (i dont kno if that means ne thing) and i dont know how to get the the hardware thingie.

Do other CDs work alright?

  1. Click on the start button.
  2. On the menu that appears, choose 'settings', then the 'control panel' item.
  3. You should get a window up that has a lot of icons in it. There will be one called 'system'. Double-click on it.
  4. This shuold bring up a form with information about your PC, and a series of little tabs across the top. One will be called 'Hardware'. Click it.
  5. This will show you a tab with some buttone on it, one which is labelled 'Device Manager'. Click that.
  6. You will now get the list of hardware installed on your PC. There should be an item called 'DVD/CDROM drives' (even if you don't have a DVD player). Click that.
  7. This will open a little sub-menu, which should have something like the brand of your CDROM drive.
  8. Check if the picture has a tiny yellow circle with an exclamation mark on it.
  9. Double-click on the picture of the drive - and it should tell you some info about how your drive is working.
  10. There is a button for 'troubleshoot', which starts the windows troubleshooter.

You're on to something, there is a red circle with a line trough it by "C:\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\Cdralw2k.sys" What do I do?

Is that on the CDROM drive details? (describe where it is, or post a screenshot).

That file sounds like the CDROM driver file (the software that tells the computer how to run the CDROM drive)

If you saw this on the info box for the CDROM, then there should be a tab called 'driver'. If you click on that, there migth be a button called 'update driver'. You could try that.

There is no option to update it, is there any other way that I can? But yes that is in the driver thing just like you told me to.

That option is grey and cannot be selected.

Yes, and when i went back to it i could do it, but it didnt do anything.
