I have to admit, with all of the cash I was using over the last turns I was not feeling comfortable about boosting luxuries to celebrate.

However, now that we've removed the Chinese and taken the Mongol cities that are nearest to our homeland, we could revisit this.

What are people's thoughts about this?

Celebrating now looks like a good idea, me thinks. :)

OK, this is more or less a "bump" to revisit this.

I would very much like to celebrate, and I'd like to chat about when and how .

As far as when, I'd like to do this pretty quickly. If we are going to shore up our position in Mongol lands, then we can hold off on a great deal of troop movements to lessen the unhappiness. Our Beijing-supported army in Mongol lands should still be able to cause trouble without any undue effects, however.

As far as how, by this I mean what slider items we should lower to account for the increase in luxuries that will be needed. I estimate that we'll need about 40% or 50% luxuries to really get a good group of cities to celebrate (along with moving some workers to trade-friendly tiles). What shall we lower?

Shall we lower taxes to the minimum to make sure we keep up the technology?

Shall we lover science to be sure we are still making a healthy profit during this time?

Shall we lower both an approximately equal amount?

What say thee?

I say that we should run cash/luxuries 50/50 or so until we have celebrated to your satisfaction Kev. We can take the science drop for a few turns and then claw it all back with the SSC, maybe dropping a bit of the cash that we have built up by then. I realise that some might not be keen to abandon science absolutely for a couple of turns but we will need the extra cash both to wage war and to possibly patch up the science deficit. We are miles ahead of the other civs already though :D.

I agree that we should decrease science rather than taxes, we sure need the money. But pehaps we should consider keeping science at 10 %, so we won´t waste our SSC improvments completely.

Since we're already at 40% taxes, perhaps we'll go 40% taxes, 10% science, and 50% luxuries. That should give us a nice boost and keep the money coming in.

Further, we can actually delay Auto and hence the ending of Leo's. If we're able to take a city or two and then steal a goofy tech from someone, then we'll be able to have a nice final upgrade for our units.

How does everyone else feel?

I would say to make science 10% at the most. We are at a very good point science wise and I want to make sure we have plenty of money to rush Improvements if necessary to keep the people celebrating as long as possible.

We can also make one of the people in THDP a scientist and the wonders can make it produce a nice aount of science at 10%.

I like the idea of delaying auto to avoid negating Leo's in the hopes of getting a final upgrade. Thus I would say 10% science as a max. NOt sure if I'm comfortable stopping science completely, but if we are celebrating for only a short while, this could be acceptable.

Speaking of which, how long are we going to celebrate? I would vote for a short bump, then get back to war-mongering and technology discovering :D

I guess I envision a celebration of about 5-7 turns. That should give us a nice boost, and I think we'll find that we'll have to stop at that point and build some additional aqueducts/sewers before we celebrate once again.

I think that will put the SSC at about 17-20 in size - and most of the added tiles will be trade-rich ocean squares.

This will help cities like Fort Pornstar, Olympia and Beijing as well as they will become serious producers.

Length of celebration is open to debate if others have different ideas. Of course, if we're one turn away from stealing a tech to upgrade stuff - or something like that - then I'll keep at it before we go back to normalcy.

I doubt that we will need to celebrate for many more than five turns as we will not get the full benefits from most of our cities.

It would, however, be nice to include some of the captured Mongol cities in our celebrations, but they can wait until next time we celebrate. We should concentrate on having them properly defended before growing them beyond their capabilities. They would probably just end up rioting anyway.

It's a good time to celebrate as many cities in the process of being captured loose some citizens, by celebrating they can be brought back to a good size again. Also the homecontinent could use some more citizens to boost science and production. So I support celebrating for a few turns.
