While the general Hall of Fame is an ongoing competition, we are running a series of ten games called the Hall of Fame Challenge Series. Standard Hall of Fame rules (*) still apply, but any games meeting the settings of one of the games will be counted towards the Challenge.

(*) Please read the >> HOF rules << BEFORE playing!

Settings:
 • Victory Condition: Conquest (though all victory conditions must be enabled)
 • Difficulty: Emperor
 • Starting Era: Ancient
 • Map Size: Standard
 • Map Type: Continents
 • Speed: Normal
 • Required: Aggressive AI
 • Must Not Be Checked: No Barbarians
 • Civ: Native America (Sitting Bull)
 • Opponents: Any
 • Version: 3.19.002 or 3.19.003
 • Date: 1st January to 30th April 2010
The earliest finish date wins, with score as a tiebreaker.

The thought behind this challange is that Continent maps are one of the few that (hopefully) you cannot make contact with the other landmass before Optics.

Sitting Bull isn't really that useful at first glance but there is an intriguing possibility to explore, a Feudalism slingshot.
a LB on the offense isn't better than a sword, even with free promotions and loads of XPs.
better get yourself some catapults

The continents map script can be bugged occasionally, resulting in a pangaea style map. It's rare but happens. Still, since it's SB, you shouldn't have much trouble double bulbing astro as needed.

I've tried the feudalism sling before and it's not really worth it. Fun, but not effective - as cabert pointed out, swords are better.

IMO mop the continent with horse archers ---> consolodate ---> vassal other continent

or

Tech to renaissance and blast everybody at once, probably using draft rifles to chain cap. Bonus points for bulbing here.

If someone manages to get a buggy continents start, the former option will easily beat out anything that can be done with longbows.

The 2nd one ---> renaissance then stomp. Used mounted rather than rifles however. The initial attack was a mix of upgrades and hammered out troops.

Thanks for the tips. I was on this path before I had to abandon for using wrong MOD... it's nice to know that it was a workable strategy. Hopefully you'll see my name up there soon.

Oh yeah... anything in particular I should look for in a start? I had floodplains going that seemed to give me a good edge, but wonder if a gold/gems start would be quicker.

How will you ever manage to get all 10 games done in 4 months?

I know right .

Actually I've completed the first 7, although I'd like to refine some of them.

I don't really use mapfinder so I just roll with starts that look good to me. I wonder spammed quite a lot in this game which is evident in the game log :/. Best time so far on emp continents is 1200's AD but that was with a very strong leader and hand picked opponents. I think a winning time will be between mine and that.

I'm sure I had some annoying AI picked out here, wonder what happened :mischief:

I do not know where to post the question so I put it here: I sometimes can pick the opponents and sometimes not but is there any restriction on the number, meaning could I play this one with only one opponent or is the standard number of civs mandatory?

thanks!

besides my doubts, this whole challenger settings looks like an interesting idea and will give it at try (no idea though if I finish everything in time).

The HOF Rules specifiy Min/Max opponents by mapsize. If there are opponents defined for a gauntlet you can add more as long as you don't exceed the max.

Denniz points out a good hint: adding certain kinds of AIs will make later maps in this series a lot easier than if you just had the required ones on the field.

Sheesh what a slugfest!

Had a great start, and was hoping to roll over them all easily, but emperor AI production didnt let me... At one point I had to evacuate almost 30 assorted troops from Isabellas lands because they could do nothing as it was.

Oh well, started on big continent with Liz, Gandhi, Napoleon and Isabella. Liz+Nappy went fast with horse archers, but Gandhi teched like mad and had longbows 200BC . Had to mass a large force of catapults to take him out. And then he vassalized to Isabella :( after I made peace for a bunch of techs.
I let Isabella get too big, so it took a while and great amounts of assorted medieval troops to wear her down.
Then had to invade America 1+2 on the other continent, who were just ahead in techs, having muskets/knights/pikes mainly vs maces/trebs/knights/phants. Finally got them to capitulate in 1575AD.
